A Prophet Grandson in Sinop: Seyyid Bilal
Abstract
Man is an entity that is both material and spiritual. Relations among people, daily affairs and
clothing indicate the physical dimension of a person. On the other hand, the point of view of the
events, and most importantly, the refuge of Allaha indicates the spiritual dimension of man. In
the same way, the borders are of a material and spiritual dimension. In this way the spiritual
dimension of the borders emerges with the spiritual dynamics in that place. One of the spiritual
dynamics that contributed to the spiritual dimension of Sinop is the personality of Sayyid Bilal.
Sayyid Bilal’s tomb, who is one of the most important historical values for Sinop and is mentioned
in the Foundation book with the expression of " The mercy of Allah be upon Him", is in Sinop.
Sayyid Bilal is descendant of Hussein. Sayyed Bilal's spiritual significance is great for Sinop and
Turkey. He is a person whose history, religion and spiritual personality have contributed positi-
vely to religious, national and spiritual aspects.
Keywords: Sayyid Bilal, Sinop, Tomb.

Sinop'a saldırmıştır.

Abstract
“Sinope” historic name of the Sinop, on the southern coast of the Black Sea, is a natural harbor
in the north of Turkey. It is located on a bridge connecting the Boztepe Peninsula to the mainland
and is covered with high, forest covered mountains to the south from the Anatolian Plateau. Ac-
cording to the legend, Sinop was founded by the Amazons for their queen Sinova. The base of
the city was founded by a friend of Hercules, Autolycus. As a result of the trade routes from Upper
Mesopotamia, it commanded a large part of the maritime trade of the Pontic region, By the 5th
century, it had built many colonies on the shore and had sea dominance in the Black Sea. It was
conquered by Pharnaces I in 183 BC and became the capital of the Pontic kingdom. The Mithra-
dates VI Eupator, who was born there, had a high level of prosperity and was decorated with
beautiful buildings, naval arsenals and well-built harbors. Roman General Lucius Licinius Lucul-
lus, BC. In the 70's the port was taken over and the city was almost completely destroyed. It was
taken over by the Seljuk Turks in 1214 and was included in the Ottoman Empire in 1458. Shortly
after the Crimean War erupted in November 1853, the Russian navy attacked Sinop heavily.
Among the works of Sinop's past are an ancient castle rebuilt during the Byzantine and Seljuk
periods, some isolated columns and inscribed stones built from ancient Greek and Roman periods,
and Alâeddin Mosque built in 1214. The 13th-century Alayia religious school is now home to the
local museum. Considering the historical texture of the past, Sinop has a rich cultural tourism
potential in terms of its cultural heritage. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the cultural tourism
potential with a "simulation museum" to be formed by taking the works of Islamic art in Sinop.
In this context, the "Sinop Islamic Works of Art Simulation Museum", which will be established
with the necessary support, will not only give information about Sinop's Islamic art history but
also enable tourists to experience that period. Thus, the historical values of Sinop will be seen as
interesting and the tourism potential of Sinop will increase.
