Türkiye’de özel sektörün müzi¤e deste¤inin ilk örne¤ini oluflturan
Akbank Oda Orkestras›, 1992 y›l›nda kurulmufltur. ‹lk y›llarda de¤iflik
flef ve solistlerle birçok salonda faaliyet gösterdikten sonra, 1996
y›l›nda ülkenin en iyi genç profesyonel müzisyenleriyle yeniden
yap›lanm›fl ve bugünkü program içeri¤i, dinamik kiflili¤i ve icra
kalitesi aç›s›ndan özel bir yere sahip olmufltur. ‹stanbul’da sundu¤u
düzenli konser dizilerine ek olarak Anadolu turneleri ve ço¤unlukla
üniversitelerde düzenlenen Gençlik Konserleri ile birlikte, y›lda
yaklafl›k 25 konser vermektedir. Cem Mansur’un daimi flefli¤e
getirildi¤i 1998 y›l›ndan beri, belli temalar ve ba¤lant›lar çerçevesinde
oluflturulan konserlere ek olarak, tarihi mekânlarda evrensel müzi¤i
yerel kültür ve tarihimizle bir araya getiren “mini-festival”lerde
baflrolü oynamaktad›r.
Akbank Chamber Orchestra was established in 1992 as the first
example of private sector supported music organizations. During its
initial years, it was lead by various conductors and soloists
performing at different halls, it was restructured in 1996 with the
most prominent young music professionals of Turkey, and its
program contents, characteristics and performance quality was
reorganized accordingly. In addition to regular concerts in Istanbul,
with its tours in Anatolian cities and youth concerts mainly
organized at universities, the orchestra realizes about 25 concerts
every year. Since 1998 when Cem Mansur was appointed as
resident conductor, apart from thematic and relative concerts, it
plays an important role in mini-festivals that combine universal
music with our local culture and history.

Buster Keaton
4 Ekim 1895’te Kansas’ta Joseph Frank Keaton VI ad›yla do¤du.
Anne ve babas› vodvil komedyenleriydi. “Buster” ad› ise aile dostlar›
ve ifl arkadafllar› Harry Houdini taraf›ndan verilmiflti. Daha üç
yafl›ndayken, ailesiyle birlikte “Üç Keaton” ad› alt›nda gösterilere
ç›k›yordu. ‹lk kez 1917 yaz›nda, beraber iki bobinlik on befl k›sa film
daha çekece¤i komedyen-yönetmen Fattie Arbuckle’›n filmi Küçük
Kasap’ta rol ald›. 1920 y›l›nda askerden döndükten sonra ilk uzun
metrajl› filmini çekti ve birden y›ld›z oldu. Bir y›l içinde, kendi yap›m
flirketinde kendi yazd›¤›, yönetti¤i ve oynad›¤› filmler çekiyordu.
1928’de MGM stüdyosuna geçmek zorunda kal›nca filmlerinin ›fl›lt›s›
kayboldu. 1932 y›l›nda bofland›, alkolik oldu ve 1935’te bir klini¤e
yat›r›ld›. 1952’de eski evinde saklad›¤› baz› filmleri bulununca
yeniden hat›rland› ve filmlerine akademik bir ilgi gösterilmeye
baflland› ve ard›ndan kendisine özel bir Oscar ödülü verildi. 1966
y›l›nda, yüzden fazla film çektikten sonra kanserden öldü. Hiçbir
filminde de¤iflmeyen ifadesiz yüzü ile “Büyük Tafltan Surat” lakab›n›
kazanm›flt›.
Born on October 4, 1895 in Kansas as Joseph Frank Keaton VI to
stage comedian parents. His nickname “Buster” was given by their
co-worker, the famous illusionist, Harry Houdini. He worked on
stage with his parents as “The Three Keatons” from the age of
three. He first saw a movie studio in 1917, acting in The Butcher Boy
by comedian-director Fatty Arbuckle with whom he made 15 more
two-reel films. He made his first feature film after he returned
from the military in 1920, and rose to stardom. By 1921, he had is
own production company and he wrote, directed and starred in his
own films. In 1928, he signed with MGM and his fame dwindled.
In 1932 he was divorced, became and alcoholic and was admitted in
1935. When his film stock with films that never
had been previously shown were discovered at
his old mansion in 1952, and his work started to
be preserved academically, following which he
received a special Oscar. After completing well
over 100 films, he died of cancer in 1966. His
trademark emotionless face had earned him the
nickname “The Great Stone Face”.

General, sessiz film komedilerinin en müthifli
kabul edilir; ayr›ca sessiz film komedilerinde
parlakl›k ve özgünlü¤ü simgeleyen Buster
Keaton’un da en sevdi¤i filmdir. Zaman›na göre,
dört yüz bin dolar gibi dev bir bütçeyle çekilen filmin
merkezinde, sevdi¤i kad›n ve sevdi¤i lokomotif
“General” için elinden geleni, akl›na ve karfl›s›na gelen
her tür f›rsat ve aletle yapmaya çal›flan demiryolu
mühendisinin eylemleri bulunur. Filmin kurmaca
öyküsü, William Pittenger’in 1862 y›l›nda bir
Konfederasyon treninin casuslar taraf›ndan
kaç›r›lmas›n›n gerçek öyküsünü anlatan “Daring and
Suffering: A History of the Great Railway Adventure” adl›
eserinden esinlenir. Kuzeyliler’in bak›fl aç›s›ndan
anlat›lan özgün öykü, film için yeniden kurgulanarak
Güneyli bir demiryolu mühendisinin anlat›m›na
dönüfltürülmüfl. Hareketlili¤i art›rmak için ikinci bir tren
kovalamaca sekans› ve Edgar Allan Poe’dan ödünç
al›nan Annabelle Lee adl› bir karakter eklenmifl. Film
için, sonradan yok edilmek üzere, gerçek ölçülerde bir
demiryolu köprüsü ve vagonlar›yla beraber bir lokomotif
infla edilmifl. Gerçek “General” lokomotifi, 1911’den bu
yana Chattanooga’da sergileniyor. Besteci ve flef Carl
Davis’in, General’in gösterimine efllik edecek olan alayc›
kahramanl›k senfonisi, dönemin flark›lar›n› da içeriyor.

The General was also the favor›te of Buster
Keaton, the representat›ve of all that ›s br›ll›ant
and or›g›nal ›n s›lent f›lm comedy.
Shot with a
huge budget for its time ($400,000), its plot is
provided mainly by the actions of the railroad engineer
who tries to do his best for his passionately loved
woman and the locomotive, “The General”, using
various objects and resourceful opportunities he
encounters. The fictional plot of the film was based on
William Pittenger’s “
Daring and Suffering: A History of
the Great Railway Adventure”, a true Civil War story of
the seizure by a group of about twenty Union spies of a
Confederate train in April 1862. The original tale told
from a Northern perspective was reworked for the film,
from the point of view of a Southern engineer. To
increase the pace, a second train chase was added, and
a heroine named Annabelle Lee, after Edgar Allan Poe
was introduced. A full-size railroad bridge was built
specifically to be destroyed, along with a multi-wagon
train. The authentic “General” locomotive is currently
on display at Chattanooga since 1911. Composer and
conductor Carl Davis’s symphonic development of a
mock-heroic theme that accompanies the screening of
The General brings out the Civil War conflict through
ingenious use of the songs of the period.
