Sineman›n art›k aram›zdan ayr›lm›fl olan ustalar›n›n
baflyap›tlar›yla an›ld›¤› Festival’in bu geleneksel
bölümünde, ‹talyan komedilerinin ve yeni gerçekçili¤inin
ustalar›ndan, Fellini taraf›ndan “büyük zanaatkâr”
olarak tan›mlanan oyuncu, senaryo yazar› ve yönetmen
Pietro Germi’nin filmlerinden bir seçki sunulacak.

recalled through the›r masterp›eces, the Fest›val w›ll
›ntroduce th›s year a select›on from the r›ch
f›lmography of one of the masters of Ital›an comed›es
and Ital›an neo-real›sm, actor, scr›ptwr›ter and d›rector
P›etro Germ›, descr›bed by Fell›n› as “the great
craftsman”.

Filmi ciddiye alan François, ertesi gün ay›ld›¤›nda,
bisikletini kullanarak harika, komik yöntemler yarat›r…
Jacques Tati bir hiciv ustas›d›r ve modern yaflam› ti’ye
al›r. Godard’a göre, Frans›z yeni gerçekçili¤inin
öncüsüdür. Karikatür sanatç›s› Behiç Ak’a göre ise
“sinema ve karikatürün en iyi çak›flt›¤› filmlere imza
atm›flt›r”. K›sacas› Tati, komik, atak ve zeki bir modern
ça¤ elefltirmenidir. ‹lk k›sa filmi L’École des facteurs’den
esinlenerek yaratt›¤› Bayram Günü’ndeki postac›
François, y›llarca kendi ad›yla birlikte an›laca¤› Hulôt
karakterinin öncülüdür. Bayram Günü, Tati’nin
filmografisi boyunca ustalaflt›rd›¤› modern yaflam,
modern mimari, tekno-stres, sonsuz yenileflme
tak›nt›s›na karfl› sadece o an›, durumu kullanarak
getirdi¤i sessiz ama gürültücü mizahi elefltirinin
bafllang›c›d›r. Tati, 1949’da Venedik’te En ‹yi Senaryo
Ödülü alan ve baflrolünü üstlendi¤i bu filmi, zaman›n
ötesinde bir renklendirme tekni¤i olan Thomsoncolor ile
çekmifl ama bunu bast›racak bir laboratuvar bulamam›flt›.
Film, y›llar sonra k›z› Sophie Tatischeff taraf›ndan
renklendirilmifltir.

W›th a travel›ng fa›r ›n the small rural town of
Sa›nte-Sévère-sur-Indre, the res›dents start
r›d›cul›ng the postman Franço›s.
At night, they get
him drunk and convince him to watch a film titled
“The modern delivery techniques of the US-post”
featuring stuntmen. The next day, he takes the film
seriously and develops some inventive and funny
delivery methods, using only his bicycle… Jacques Tati
is a master of satire and ridicules modern living.
According to Godard, he is the leader of French neo-
realism; according to cartoonist Behiç Ak, “he signed
on films where cinema and caricature best overlap.”
The postman François in Jour de fête, inspired by his
first short L’Ecole des facteurs, is a precursor of M. Hulôt,
with whom he would later be identified with for years.
Jour de fête is the initiation of a subtle but rowdy
humoristic critique that he brings using only the
moment and the situation against the obsession of
modern living, modern architecture, techno-stress,
and eternal renovation. Winning the Best Script Award
at Venice in 1949, and starring Tati in the lead, the film
was shot with a coloring technique ahead of its time,
Thomsoncolor, but could not be printed in color in any
laboratory. The color version of the film was restored
years later by his daughter Sophie Tatischeff.

1907’de Paris d›fl›nda Le Pecq’de do¤du, 1982’de Paris’te öldü.
Yönetti¤i ilk k›sa filmi L’École des facteurs büyük ilgi görünce, bu filmi
geniflleterek 1949’da ilk uzun metrajl› filmi olan Bayram Günü’nü
çekti. Les Vacances de M. Hulôt ile kendisiyle özdeflleflen alter-egosu,
pipolu Bay Hulôt’yu yaratt›. Sadece befl uzun metrajl› film yapm›fl
olmas›na ra¤men yazar, yönetmen ve oyuncu olarak Fransa’n›n en
etkili sanatç›lar›ndan biridir.
Born in 1907 in Le Pecq, on the outskirts of Paris; died in 1982
in Paris. He first directed the short L’École des
facteurs in 1947, which upon its success he
expanded it into his award-winning first feature,
Jour de fête (1949). With Les Vacances de M.
Hulôt, he introduced his alter ego, the pipe-
smoking Hulot. With a total of only five feature
films, he is known as one of the most influential
artists of France, as a writer, director and actor.
