Megoldás III. Irányított fogalmazás I. My Favorite Sport My favorite sport is football, of course, the most popular sport in the world. I always catch the most important games on TV, but I must admit that Hungarian teams are not the best. It's been quite a while since we had a world-class team. Of course everybody is well acquainted with the rules. The most important is, of course: no hands! Naturally I enjoy playing the sport, as well. In fact I don't remember when I played my first game, or when this became my favorite sport. It always has been, I guess. One of my earliest and fondest memories is of my father and I going to the park to practice. "Son," he would say, "you've got to keep your eye on the ball!" I guess the sport, for right or wrong, is intimately tied up in my imagination with manhood. This is, as I said above, the most popular sport in the world, because you need good reflexes, general fitness, a good eye, a quick mind and an all-around competitive spirit. The rules are simple, but play is complicated and unpredictable. It's a great excuse to get out into the open air, get fit and have fun with your friends. I just wish that some people didn't use it as an excuse to fight and act disgracefully. Vagy: II. 11th June, 2000 Dear Pete, Did I ever tell you about the time I saw an eclipse? It was a total eclipse of the sun right here in Hungary! I know that this eclipse was visible in England, too. I read about it first in all the papers, and there was a lot of publicity surrounding it. We were lucky to have wonderful weather here in Hungary. The eclipse was clearly visible, and down here in Simontornya, my village, the sun was totally eclipsed. I heard it was only 75% or so in Budapest. My mum and I bought a pair of special glasses, and we could watch it all from the back patio. Boy, was it spectacular. My mom and I were ecstatic! During totality, we could look directly into the place the sun should be. And there were stars all around, in the middle of the day. It was even more breathtaking than I had imagined. My mother cried. I, of course kept my cool compared to this, but I could sympathise with her reaction. Anyway, there was this sudden, incredibly intense burst of light, like a laser, and the sun was peeking out from behind the moon again. It was just plain amazing to see Mother Nature stand on her head like that. I hear that the next one will be in South Africa. One of my friends said they were heading out there to see it. I don't know...if I bought a plane ticket I'd rather go to England and brush up on my English. Yours,

I wonder how many mothers, like myself, have faced an interviewer who seemed more concerned with potential employees' private life than with their ability to do the job. The job I applied for involved evening work. The man I was talking to was not nosy enough to ask who would care for my child while I worked, but he had the audacity to ask: "Won't your husband mind looking after him?" I doubt if any husbands who go for interviews are asked if their wives are willing to take care of the children five days a week while they work; yet intelligent women must put up with this stupid questioning. My future boss has nothing to do with my private life. Even if he had, a child has two parents and I believe that they should share in his or her upbringing. Only the totally inadequate mother would look for a job without being confident that her children wouldn't suffer by it. Narrow-minded employers should not prevent mothers who are keen on working from getting a job.

Szeretném tudni, vajon hány hozzám hasonló anya ült szemben olyan interjúvolóval, akit úgy tűnt, hogy jobban érdekel a potenciális alkalmazottak magánélete, mint az a képessége, hogy hogyan tudja ellátni a munkát. Az állás, amire jelentkeztem, esti munkát jelentett. Csak egy teljesen alkalmatlan anya keresne úgy állást, hogy nem biztos abban, hogy a gyerekei nem sínylik meg. A szűklátókörű munkáltatóknak nem kellene a dolgozni kívánó anyákat meggátolniuk az állás megszerzésében.

"Since then I've advised people to describe their pets more carefully." An Italian family who swapped with a family in north London did not understand that a couple occupied the top fiat. When they returned, the Italians tackled them, thinking that they were burglars. And an English family who went to stay in a family's house in Utah found that they had left their son behind in his bedroom. Therefore before you make up your mind about swapping with a particular family make quite sure that you will be on your own in the house, too. Nevertheless, homeswapping is gaining popularity as a way of achieving a cheap holiday. Though the various agencies claim that home-swapping is problem free, they will admit that most complaints are about different standards of cleanliness. For instance, Mildred Baer, director of Worldwide Home exchange, says: "A few complaints we have are to do with the level of housekeeping. It is usually the Americans; they can be upset that the British don't believe in steamcleaning their carpets." if you are the sort of person who can't stand people making a mess in your home and you re very proud of how neat and tidy it always looks, then quite frankly house swapping is not for you. You'll be worrying alt the time you are away and you won't enjoy your holiday. Lois Sealey of Home Base Holidays says: 'There are always odd people who find home swapping doesn't come up to their five-star standards. It makes sense to swap with like-minded people, but this isn't always possible." Cultural differences occur, though Pat Staton, an American psychologist who has swapped with three British families, thinks gripes tend to be petty, such as about the 'tiny refrigerators' in this country. Clare Cooper, who swapped her home in London for one in New York, found herself 'irritated' that the swappers hadn't cleaned their home as much as she had hers. The home-swapping agencies' services are broadly similar; the holiday-maker pays a fee to be included in a directory, which goes out to agencies' members. They alt stress home swapping as the thinking person's holiday; an American home swap company, Vacation Services, offers 'cultural enrichment' as a by-product. There has to be some work on the part of the swapper. "It is not a cosy holiday", says Cooper. "You have to work at it and make the effort." Most Britons exchange with householders in the United States, but the phenomenon is becoming more global. Sealey says "Home Base Holidays even had Russian houses on their books last year." Hong Kong, Tasmania, Togo and Ghana are also among the countries where it is possible to home-swap, and Worldwide Home Exchange has a listing in Sri Lanka.

II. Magyar szöveg tömörítése idegen nyelven Készítsen az alábbi szövegből - annak kb. fele terjedelmében - idegen nyelvű tömörítést (tartalmi összefoglalást)! Fontos, hogy a tartalmi ismertetés egységes szöveget alkosson (pl. a szöveget megfelelő bekezdésekre tagolja). Maximális pontszám: 20 pont Aki sokat olvas, veszít a tőzsdén Aki naponta nyomon követi a tőzsdei eseményeket, különösen sok hibát követ el a részvények vásárlása vagy eladása során - állítja a müncheni egyetem egyik pszichológus professzora. Szerinte hibás a részvénytulajdonosoknak az a vélekedése, hogy egyre több információ birtokában egyre jobb döntéseket tudnak majd hozni. A tapasztalat szerint ugyanis a legjobb üzleteket azok képesek kötni, akik nem naponkénti gyakorisággal informálódnak a tőzsdei helyzetről. Így jobban képesek az egyes információkat az általános összefüggésekbe helyezni. A naponként érdeklődő ügyfelek ezzel szemben hajlamosak pánikszerű részvényeladásokra, vagy vásárlásokra, melyek viszont legtöbbször tévesnek bizonyulnak. A legtöbb emberből ugyanis hiányzik a megfelelő távolságtartás az új helyzetektől, és ezért sokan túlértékelik a legfrissebb eseményeket. Az aktuális hír egyfajta dominanciára tesz szert, és minden egyéb információt leárnyékol - állítja a gazdasági pszichológus. Ezt a hatást csak erősítik a hírközlő szervek, amelyek csupán magáról az eseményről tudósítanak, miközben említés nélkül hagyják annak esetleges hátterét vagy összefüggéseit. Ezáltal egy friss esemény jelentősebbnek tűnik, mint amilyen valójában. Ehhez jön még, hogy a legtöbben nagyon hirtelen és érzelmi alapon reagálnak a jó vagy rossz hírekre. A fentieket megerősítette az a szimulációs vizsgálat is, melynek során a Wall Street Journalt naponta olvasók rosszabbul szerepeltek tőzsdei ügyletek során, mint az újságba csak ritkábban belepillantók. Mindebből persze a pszichológus professzor szerint nem az következik, hogy kevesebb újságot kellene olvasnunk. Ajánlja viszont a higgadt reagálást, és egy-két nap kivárást tanácsol egy-egy döntés meghozatala előtt. Ennyi idő alatt az információk jobban leülepednek, és az újságolvasó újraértékelheti azokat. A részvénytulajdonosoknak hosszú távú célokat célszerű kitűzniük, és az újságolvasás során önuralmukat kell gyakorolniuk, hogy ne legyen úrrá rajtuk holmi világvége-hangulat. (MTI)

In his opinion, investors proceed from the mistaken notion that more knowledge is always better, when in fact it can lead to buying and selling in a panic. This is owing to people's natural tendency to overrate the freshest news, a tendency which is aggravated by the media, who cover the story, not the background or the interconnections between the events. People who are not equipped with the latest information daily are better able to see these interconnections and background, says the psychologist, keeping a certain distance from events and putting them in context. He bases his claims on a study involving readers of The Wall Street Journal, in which it was discovered that those who only occasionally read the paper outperform daily readers on their stock market investments.
