Azərbaycanda futbolun yaranma tarixi 1911­ci ildən götürülsə 
də, əslində, daha əvvəlki dövrü əhatə edir. XIX əsrin sonu – XX 
əsrin əvvəllərində çar Rusiyasının əyaləti olan Azərbaycanda 
sənaye inkişaf etməyə başlamışdı. O vaxt dünyada çıxarılan nef­
tin yarıdan çoxu məhz Bakıda hasil edilirdi. Bakı neftinə görə Ru­
siya ilə İngiltərənin maraqları üst­üstə düşdüyündən, əsasən bu 
iki ölkədən və digər qonşu dövlətlərdən Azərbaycana xeyli işçi 
qüvvəsi axışırdı. Onlar özlərilə birlikdə yaşayış və istirahət tərzini 
də gətirdilər. Futbol isə bu siyahıda heç də axırıncı yerdə deyil­
di. Artıq 1907­ci ildə “Stella”, “Kongress”, “Unitas” birinci oğlan 
gimnaziyasında, “Adamovçular” ticarət məktəbində, “Progress” 
və digər komandalar yaradılmışdı. Belə komandalardan biri də 
Balaxanı neft mədənləri fəhlələri arasında 1911­ci ildə təşkil edil­
miş “Balaxanı futbolçular dərnəyi” adlı komanda idi. Sonradan 
məhz bu komanda “Neftçi”nin yaradılmasında əsas rol oynadı.
 
Azərbaycan futbolunu 4 əsas mərhələyə bölmək olar. Birinci 
mərhələ 1911­1949­cu illəri əhatə edir. Bu mərhələni “Baş­
lanğıc” adlandırmaq olar. Həmin illərdə diqqəti cəlb edən əsas 
hadisələrdən biri də 1928­ci ildə Moskvada SSRİ xalqlarının 
ilk spartakiadasının keçirilməsidir. Həmin spartakiadada bakılı 
futbolçulardan Nexezin, Korotkov, Qnezdov, Sorokin, Turkiya iş­
tirak edib təcrübə toplamışdılar. 1931­ci ildən Sovet məkanında 
futbol üzrə ilk SSRİ Kuboku keçirildi. Bu kubokda Qafqazın 3 res ­
publikasının yığması iştirak edib. Həmin komandanın he yə tin də 
fəal iştirak edən bakılılar yaxşı oyun nümayiş etdiriblər. Bu illərdə 
futbol artıq sürətlə inkişaf etməyə başlayır və tamaşaçılar tə rə­
fin dən böyük maraqla qarşılanırdı. 1936­cı ildə Xalq Komissar­
ları Şurası tərəfindən SSRİ­də idmanın inkişafı haqqında qanun 
qəbul edildi. Bu qanunun həyata keçirilməsi çərçivəsində 1937­
ci ildə Bakıda “Neftyanik” idman birliyi yaradıldı. 1938­ci ildə ən 
mühüm futbol nailiyyətlərımızdən biri “Temp” komandamızın 
SSRİ kubokunun 1\8 finalına çıxması və 16 ən yaxşı komanda 
sırasına daxil olmasıdır. 
II Dünya Müharibəsi ilə əlaqədar 1941­1945­ci illərdə Azər bay­
can futbolunda fasilə yarandı. Uzun fasilədən sonra ilk çempio­
nat 1946­cı ildə keçirildi. “Dinamo” və “Neftyanik” komandala­
rımız bu çempionatın “B” qrupunda mübarizə aparıblar. Həmin 
çem pionat Azərbaycana Vladimir Karmayev, Naum Naumt­
sev, Vladimir Ustinov, Valentin Xlıstov, Tofiq Bəhramov, Tofiq 
Rəsulov, Viktor Şevçenko, Ələkbər Məmmədov kimi yeni adlar 
bəxş edib. 1949­cu ildə Yüksək liqanın çempionatı geniş şəkildə 
keçirildi. Sovet respublikalarının 5 yığma komandası bu çempi­
onatda iştirak etmək hüququ qazanmışdı. Həmin komandaların 
sırasında Azərbaycanı “Neftyanik” təmsil edib. Çempionatda 
çıxış edən ən gənc futbolçu həmyerlimiz “Neftyanik” komanda­
sının 19 yaşlı üzvü Ələkbər Məmmədov olub. 
Azərbaycanda futbolun inkişafı çox sürətlə gedirdi. Artıq 1951­ci 
ilin 16 sentyabr tarixində Bakıda Respublika stadionunun tən tə­
nə li açılışı oldu. Həmin gün Vilnüsün “Spartak” və Bakının “Neft­
yanik” komandaları arasında SSRİ birinciliyinin oyunu keçirilmişdi. 
Bu tarixi görüşdə ilk qolu Ələkbər Məmmədov vurmuşdu.

Even if everybody thinks that the beginning of Azerbaijan’s foot­
ball history started in 1911, the real football history started much 
earlier, at the beginning of the XX century. At the beginning of 
the XX century industry started to develop in one of the provinces 
of the Tsar of Russia – Azerbaijan. Half of the world’s oil resources 
were being produced in Baku, and in those days and Baku’s oil 
was of great interest to Russia and England and that is why the­
re were a lot of foreigners from these two countries and others 
coming to Baku to work. They brought their work and lifestyles of 
their own countries with them. Football was not last on this this list. 
Since 1907 the “Progress” and other football teams were formed 
at “Stella”, “Kongress”, “Unitas” boy’s gymnasiums and the “Ado­
movich” trade school. In 1911 the “Balakhani Football Course” 
team consisted of oil workers founded at the Balakhani oil fields. 
This team became the basis for the new “Neftchi” club.
 
The formation of Azeri football could be divided into 4 stages. 
The first stage took place between 1911 and 1949. These years 
could be considered as the beginning of Azeri football. The main 
event during this period was the first competition between the 
USSR republics, held in 1928 in Moscow. Nekhezin, Korotkov, 
Gnezdov, Sorokin ­ Baku’s football players took part at this com­
petition and gained experience. The first football cup tournament 
was held in 1931 in the USSR. The combined team of the Cau­
casus republics took part in these Cup Games. The Baku players, 
who took part in this game performed well. Football developed 
quickly during this period of time and sparked real interest of the 
public. In 1936, the National Commissariat’s Council ratified the 
law concerning the development of sport. 
In the frame of this law’s implementation, the “Neftyanik” Club 
was created in 1937. Our greatest acheivement came in 1938 
when our “Temp” team reached the 1/8 final and entered the­
best 16 teams list. During the Second World War in 1941­1945 
the development of Azeri football had a 5 year break. After the 
long break the first championship was held in 1946. Our “Neftya­
nik” and “Dinamo” teams took part in this championship in the “B” 
group. This championship brought new names to Azeri football 
– Vladimir Karmayev, Naum Naumtsev, Vladimir Ustinov, Valentin 
Khlistov, Tofig Ba hramov, Tofig Rasulov, Viktor Shevchenko and 
Alakbar Mammadov. Five teams of the Soviet Union took part in 
these games, the Azerbaijani “Neftyanik” team was among them. 
In 1949 the Premier League was held across the Soviet states. 
Twenty teams, including Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Georgia took 
part in this championship. The youngest player was 19 year old 
Alakbar Mammadov who participated at this championship for 
the Azerbaijani team. 
The development of Azeri football was fast. The great opening 
ceremony of the Republican Stadium in Baku was held in 1951. In 
honor of the opening ceremony, a friendly game between Vilnius 
“Spartak” and Baku “Neftchi” was held on this momentous day. 
Alakbar Mammadov scored the first goal at this historical game.
