5.3.2 Future Research 
The in-depth interviews with the participants reveal that the local managers 
have strong impact on bringing mentally encourage and working morale to employees 
as well as reducing conflict in workplace. This finding was also explained partly by the 
influence of Confucia
n beliefs as well as “guanxi” relationships which are defining 
characteristics of East Asia society. Future research could explore the relationship 
between local managers and employee commitment within foreign company in 
Vietnam. In order to narrow the scope of the study, this study could be put in the 
context of small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) and the research objects might be 
Vietnamese blue-collar workers, for instance.
Another interesting direction for future exploration would be the role of 
Taiwanese managers in balancing the relationship between local managers and local 
employees, for example, good and bad relationships between them. It would be 
valuable to study how Taiwanese managers deal with this embarrassing situation. The

study could focus on some of Taiwan-based companies in Vietnam where employ local 
managers and the research participants might be Taiwanese managers.
