On the last day of Stepanov’s stay in Britain his British colleagues gave a little farewell party for him. After the usual toasts the head of the laboratory, Dr. Banks, got up and made a speech. He said, “The scientists of this country have most friendly feelings for their colleagues in the Soviet Union. We are all anxious to work in the most cordial way with our Russian colleagues. Contacts like ours help to cement the ties between men of different countries and different creeds. I should like to propose a toast to closer cooperation in science between our two countries”.
