of yard and the closed sections are composed of shelter places with accomodation rooms and
barns and spring rooms as being service areas. Besides, with its plan being composed of three
rings one inside another, Karakurt, is classified within parfocal inn typology. The first ring of
the parfocal plan of Karakurt, consists of barn, the second ring consists of accomodation and
spring rooms together with iwan, and the third ring consists of barns. With its parfocal plan
type, Karakurt inn-spring has features similar to Eshab-ı Kehf Inn in the village of Elbistan in
Maraş, Kırkgoz Inn situated on Antalya-Burdur road, and Kargı inn situated on Alanya-Kon-
ya road. Karakurt, has a rectangular plan with external dimensions of 42.45 x 38.20 m. In the
structure, first it is entered into the hall in between two barn sections, then entry is made to iwan
through an internal portal door, and then entry is made from iwan to the barn. Accomodation
rooms have been lined as forming an “U” plan in the east, south, and west directions of the yard.
Rooms located at the corners of intersection with south part of accomodation rooms coming
from east and west directions, have been arranged as double rooms being interconnected with
one another. Apart from the management room, there are currently 12 pieces of accomodation
rooms in the structure. But during the research excavation realised at the north-west edge of the
structure in December 2016, remains of walls of two pieces of accomodation rooms have been
discovered. In the accomodation rooms, there are furnaces for heating purposes. At the nort-
hern front of the yard, there are two pieces of spring rooms being connected with one another.
During the research excavation realised in the eastern direction of spring room, genuine spring
pool being made of white marble, has been found out. While the top parts of spring rooms and
management room are covered with brick dome, the top part of accomodation rooms and iwan
are covered with barrel stone vault. Since more than half of stone walls in the barn section were
ruined, no information could be had as regards to the top covering. But as it is compared with
the structures of the same time, the top cover should be made of vault. Furthermore, in the so-
uth-east direction of the yard, stairs made of stone, leading to the roof, have been discovered
and its short section like “L” has been found as a result of excavations. Karakurt inn-spring has
been constructed with single floor stone piling system. The thickness of walls are between 0.90
m and 1.45 m. The external walls of the structure are modest and completely dunny. On the
internal walls looking toward the yard, there are room door entries and window spaces. At the
top part of door entries, there is lento made of travertine stone and on the lento, there are brick
arches which are slightly sharp. Karakurt inn-spring has been destructed and it has reached our
time as being ruined. Upper vaults of accomodation rooms, iwan, and barns together with the
two pieces of brick dome at the top of spring rooms have been completely ruined. Brick dome
