racaqlarının diametrlərini dəqiq müəyyənləşdirmək
mümkündür. Qazıntılar göstərmişdir ki, anbarın bü-
tün qalıqlarını üzə çıxarmaq üçün qazıntı sahəsini
xeyli genişləndirmək lazımdır. Buna görə də 2011-
ci ildə qazıntı sahəsi şimala doğru genişləndirildi.
Burada sahəni genişləndirmək üçün əvvəlki illərdə
qazılıb kənara atılan torpaq yığınını təmizləmək
lazım gəldi. Sonra 2-ci oval tikintinin şimal diva-
rından kənarda olan hissədə 5 m enində sahə qazıl-
dı. Burada üst təbəqəyə aid yerə basdırılan, yanıb
izləri qalan ağac sütunların yerləri, müxtəlif ölçülü
kərpiclərlə hörülən divarların qalıqları üzə çıxarıldı.
Onların yalnız üst tərəfdən ölçülərini götürə bildik.
Qalıqlarını ölçmək üçün divarların yanını açmaq la-
zım gəldi. Ümumiyyətlə, kərpiclərin qalınlığı 10-12
sm olur. Üstdən görünən bəzi kərpiclərin ölçüləri:
40x20 sm; 43x43 sm; 40x30 sm; 45x45 sm; 45x50
sm; 50x40 sm; 40x10 (görünür, böyrü üstə qoyulub).
Anbarın döşəməsi səviyyəsinə çatarkən məlum oldu
ki, qazıntı anbarın bütün sahəsini əhatə etmir. Yenə
də sıralarla küplərin yerləri yaxşı bilinir (şək.10).
Anbarda bu ilə qədər 200-ə qədər küpün sıralarla
düzülmüş yerləri dəqiq görünür. Bəzi küplərin yal-
nız bir hissəsi qazıntı sahəsinə düşür. Anbarın tutdu-
ğu sahəni bütünlüklə qazmaq üçün sahəni yenə də
genişləndirmək lazımdır. Şəhər yerinin ən alt qatın-
da e.ə. IV-III əsrlərə aid belə böyük anbarın olması
xüsusi maraq doğurur. Ona görə də bu anbarın bütün
sahəsini açmaq zəruridir.
iii oval tikinti qaliqlari
Tikinti-
nin yalnız bünövrəsi izlənilir. Onun bünövrəsi 2-ci
oval tikintinin divarına çox yaxındır (şək.11-12).
which were removed left behind well-preserved traces
inside their pits. It was possible to determine the diame-
tres of the pitchers’ bases exactly thanks to these traces.
The excavations indicated that it was necessary to en-
large the excavation area to detect the whole remains
of the warehouse. Therefore, in 2011, we enlarged the
excavation area towards the north. To enlarge the area
it was necessary to clean the soil pile thrown up in ex-
cavations in the previous years. Then an area 5 m wide
was excavated in the outside part from the north wall
of oval building II. Detected here were the remains of a
wall built with different-sized bricks, the traces left after
burning of where there had been tree columns, cropped
in the space relating to the top layer. We could measure
their dimensions only from the upside. Opening the lat-
eral sides of the walls would be needed to measure the
remains. Generally, the bricks are 10-12 cm thick. The
sizes of the bricks visible from the top are as follows:
40×20 cm; 43×43 cm; 40×30 cm; 45×45 cm; 45×50 cm;
50×40 cm; 40×10 cm (it seems the bricks were laid side-
ways). When the level of the floor of the warehouse was
reached, it was determined that the excavation did not
cover the whole area of the warehouse. The pitcher sites
are revealed well all the same (Fig.10). Up to this year,
the sites of about 200 pitchers in rows have been inves-
tigated precisely in the warehouse. Only some pitchers
are in the excavation area. The enlargement of the area is
still necessary in order to dig the area of the warehouse
completely. The existence of such a big warehouse in the
bottom layer of an urban area belonging to the 4th-3rd
centuries BC arouses great interest. Therefore, it is nec-
essary to open the whole area of the warehouse.
remains of the 3rd oval buildinG
Part of a new oval building’s foundation, built in
keeping with the period, was found in the south of oval
building II in the previous excavation season, and it is in
parallel with it. This is the third oval building in excava-
tion area III. Only the foundation of the building is be-
ing pursued. Its foundation is very near to oval building
II (Fig.11-12), but stratigraphically it is located lower

Lakin stratiqrafiq cəhətdən ondan altda yerləşir.
Onun döşəməsində yanıq izləri və kül qatı izlənilir.
Döşəmədə tapılan bəzi keramika nümunələri də e.ə.
IV-III əsrlər üçün səciyyəvidir. Ona görə də bu tikin-
tini e.ə.
tikintinin qərb qurtaracağı qərb tərəfə uzanaraq sonu
1-ci oval tikintinin şərq divarının altında başa çatır.
3-cü oval planlı bina əvvəlkilərə nisbətən daha çox
dağıntılara məruz qalmışdır.
təsərrÜfat quyulari və
analizlər
Burada oval tikinti fəaliyyətini dayandırdıqdan
sonra yeni tikintilər və xüsusilə təsərrüfat quyuları
bir neçə yerdə binanın bünövrəsini kəsib. Bu qu-
yular oval formalıdır. Qəbələdə bu vaxta kimi qa-
zıntılar zamanı belə quyulara təsadüf olunmamışdı.
Adətən təsərrüfat quyuları dairəvi olur. Qazıntının
bu sahəsindəki quyular isə oval formalıdır. Onların
birini təmizləmişik. Onun dibindən götürülən tor-
paq nümunəsi Tbilisidə professor Eliso Kvavadze
tərəfindən aparılan palinoloji analizi göstərmişdir
ki, bu quyu əvvəlcə təsərrüfat məqsədi ilə istifadə
olunmuşdur. Belə ki, nümunədə buğda və digər taxıl
bitkilərinin tozcuqları aşkar edilmişdir.
Bunlardan başqa, bu nümunədə alaq otlarının,
yaşayış yerlərində bitən bitkilərin, otlaqların, şam,
qızılağac, palıd, vələs, qarağac, qoz və mədəni üzüm
tozcuqları da aşkar edilmişdir. Meşə bitkilərinin,
peyin göbəyinin, şumlanan sahədə bitən göbələk və
başqa bitkilərin tozcuqları da nümunənin tərkibində
müəyyən edilmişdir.
Ərzaq anbarından qərbdə adi dəyirmi təsərrüfat
quyuları da təmizlənmişdir (şək.13). Bu quyular
2-ci oval binanın altındakı təbəqəyə aiddir. Bu qu-
than it. Traces of burning and an ash layer are being in-
vestigated in oval building III. Some ceramic samples
found on the floor are also typical of the 4th-3rd centu-
ries BC. That is why it will be more correct to refer to
this building as dating from the 3rd century BC.
Only the east side of this building was opened in the
previous excavation season. It became necessary to en-
large the excavation of the site much more in order to
detect all the remains of it. It was determined that this
third oval building has the same dimensions as the sec-
ond one with a very small difference. The west bottom
of oval building III extends to the west side and it ends
completely under the east wall of oval building I. Oval-
planned building III suffered much more destruction
than the previous ones.
household pits
and analyses
New buildings, especially household wells, dis-
sected the foundation of the building in some places
after the oval building ended its activity here. These
pits are oval-planned. Such wells were not found
in Gabala during excavations before now. Usually,
household wells are circular, but the wells in this area
of the excavation are oval-planned. We cleaned one
of them. A palynological analysis of the soil sample
taken from the bottom of the well by Prof. Eliso Kva-
vadze in Tbilisi indicated that this well was used for
household purposes at first. Thus, pollens of wheat
and other grain crops were detected in the sample.
Beside these, pollens of weeds, of plants growing
in settlements and pastures, of pine, alder, oak, horn-
beam, elm, nut and grape pollens were also detected
in this sample. Pollens of wood plants, mushrooms
growing in a plowed area, and pollens of other plants
were also determined in the sample.
Ordinary round household wells were also cleaned
in the west of the warehouse (Fig.13). These wells be-
long to the layer under oval building II. During the
cleaning of the bottom of these wells, a small amount
of burnt carbonized millet grains was found. The sam-
