Gürcüstan arxeoloqları ilə birlikdə beynəlxalq
ekspedisiyasının Əhəmənilər dövrü saraylarının
qazıntıları zamanı tapılır.
Belə tapıntılar göstərir ki, Antik dövrdə Qəbələ
şəhəri yarananda orada Son Tunc və İlk Dəmir
dövründə əmələ gələn kiçik yaşayış yerində həyat
davam edirdi.
1-ci oval planlı tikintinin orta hissəsində 2011-ci ildə
alt təbəqələrin stratiqrafıyasını müəyyən etmək üçün
oval tikintinin divar hissələrini və digər bəzi qazıntı-
larını saxlamaqla 10x10 m ölçülərində kiçik sahədə
alt təbəqələrin qazıntısına başlamışdıq. O zaman oval
tikintinin döşəməsindən altdakı təbəqələrdə gil qab
bişirilən kürələrin qalıqları aşkar edilmişdir. Burada
kürədə təkayaq qara rəngli vazalar bişirmişlər. Xey-
li miqdarda vazalar kürədə qalmışdır. Onların çoxu
əzilsə də aralarında salamat qalanları da vardır. O za-
man məlum oldu ki, burada qab bişirmək üzrə böyük
emalatxana yerləşir. Emalatxananın qalıqları qazılan
sahədən şimal və şərq tərəfə uzanır. Bu emalatxana
Ellinizm dövrünə aiddir. Buradakı kürələrin üstünü ta-
mam açmaq üçün qazıntı sahəsini xeyli genişləndirmək
lazımdır. Lakin buradakı qazıntı sahəsini şərq tərəfə
çox genişləndirmək mümkün deyil. Bu halda qazın-
tı sahəsindəki ən böyük oval tikintinin şərq divarını
dağıtmaq lazım gələr. Ona görə də qazıntı sahəsini
şərq istiqamətinə ancaq oval tikintinin divarına qədər
genişləndirmək mümkündür. Bu səbəblərə görə keçən
qazıntı mövsümündə qazıntı apardığımız 100 m

sahəni genişləndirərək 175 m

-ə çatdırdıq. Məlum oldu
ki, burada saxsı qab bişirmə kürələrinin qalıqları yenə
də bütünlüklə qazıntı sahəsinə düşmür. Bütün sahədə
kürələrin yalnız odluq hissələrinin odun təsirindən ya-
nıb şlaklaşmış döşəmələri qalmışdır (şək.7, 9a, 9b, 9c,
detected in Gabala city area. Dish fragments typical of
the mid first millenium were also encountered in this
stratum. These kinds of dishes were found during the
excavation of a palace of the Achaemenid period near
Garajamirli village by archaeologists of Azerbaijan,
Germany and Georgia. Such finds show that life was
continuing in the small settlement which arose in the
Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age when Gabala city
was established. The area of the previous settlement
was also incorporated into the city area before the city
had been established here.
pottery
In 2011, we started excavating a small area of lower
strata in squares of 10×10 m within the remaining wall
parts, as well as excavating in the middle part of oval-
planned building I which was detected in the top layer
of excavation area III. At that time, the remains of clay
dish-making kilns were detected in the layers located
under the floor of oval building I. Single-footed black-
coloured vases were manufactured here. There was a
great number of vases remaining in the kiln. The major-
ity of them are collapsed although there are also undam-
aged vases among them. The location of a great dish-
making workshop here was determined at that time. The
remains of the workshop extend to the north and the
east from the excavated area. This workshop belongs
to the Hellenistic Period. It is necessary to enlarge the
excavation area much more in order to open the roofs
of the kilns completely. But it is impossible to enlarge
the excavation area here much further eastwards with-
out destroying the east wall of the biggest oval building
located in the excavation area. Therefore, it is possible
to enlarge the excavation area eastwards only up to the
wall of the oval building. For these reasons, we enlarged
the excavation area by 100 sq.m and reached a total area
of 175 sq.m in the previous excavation season. It was
known that there were no remains of faience dish-mak-
ing ovens in the excavation area. All that remained was
floor slack, left by the fire in the furnace parts of the kilns
(Fig.7, 9a, 9b, 9c, 9d, 10a, 10b, 12). Black-coloured and

Vaxtilə Antik
dövrə aid kürələr Mingəçevirdən məlum idi. Lakin on-
lar biz açdığımız kürələrdən fərqlidir. Görünür, onların
dövrləri də müxtəlifdir.
Qəbələnin Antik şəhər yerində bu kürələri daha
ətraflı öyrənmək üçün qazıntı sahəsinin şimal və cənub
istiqamətlərində bir qədər də genişləndirilməsi nəzərdə
tutulmuşdur. Lakin şərq tərəfə doğru genişləndirilsə,
çox maraqlı tikinti olan 1-ci oval planlı binanın divarla-
rını dağıtmaq lazım gələr.
Yuxarıda qeyd olunduğu kimi, kürələrin birinin
döşəməsində 15-20 sm qalınlığında qara rəngli təkayaq
vazalar qalmışdır. Bu göstərir ki, qablar hələ kürədə
olarkən kürə hansı səbəbdənsə dağılmış, qablar kürənin
yuxarı bişirmə kamerasından od yandırılan aşağı ka-
meranın döşəməsi üstünə tökülmüşdür. Bundan sonra
bu sahədə gil qab bişirilən emalatxananın fəaliyyəti
dayandırılmış, həmin yerdə başqa binalar tikilmişdir.
Qazıntının stratiqrafiyasına görə qab bişirilmə ema-
latxanası e.ə. III-II əsrlərə aid edilir.
Bu sahədə 1-ci oval planlı binanın altında,
kürələrdən üstdə divarları çiy kərpiclə (43x43 sm)
hörülən bina olmuşdur. Bu dövrdə qazılan quyular
kürələrin döşəməsini kəsmişdir.
Kürələrdən altdakı təbəqədə oval planlı
təsərrüfat quyuları, tək-tək düzbucaqlı formada yo-
nulan, sütunaltlığı kimi istifadə olunduğu güman
edilən iriölçülü puç daşlar, bir qədər yerə basdırı-
lan dayaq-sütün kimi istifadə olunan ağac yerləri
izlənilir (şək.9c, 9d, 10a, 10b).
red-coloured clay dishes were not fired together in these
ovens as red-coloured clay dishes required more time
and a higher temperature to make.
The excavations indicated that there were also some
construction strata in this area. A section belonging to a
more ancient period is located under the remains of the
kilns, a building with walls built of raw bricks is located
over them and then the great oval building is located
over that building.
Pits in the stratum located under the oval building in-
tersected the floors of the ovens. Thus, four construction
strata are well detected also in this area of the excava-
tion. These traces show that very intensive construction
work was carried out in the city.
It would be better to explore the remains of the kilns
completely because such clay dish-making ovens be-
longing to the Hellenistic Period are unknown not only
in Gabala but also in any other region of Azerbaijan.
Kilns belonging to the Ancient Period were once known
in Mingachevir but they are different from the kilns
which we opened. It seems that they also date from a
different period.
A slight enlargement of the excavation area was
conserved in the north and the south direction in order
to explore these kilns more comprehensively. But if the
excavation area is enlarged eastwards, it will be neces-
sary to destroy the walls of the 1st oval-planned build-
ing - such an interesting building.
As mentioned above, the remains of black-coloured
single-footed vases 15-20 cm thick were found on one
of the kiln floors. This indicates that the oven was de-
stroyed for some reason while the dishes were inside
it and that the dishes fell from the upper cooking shelf
of the kiln onto the floor of the charred lower shelf.
After this event, the activities of the clay dish-making
workshop stopped in this area and another building was
erected in the same area. According to the stratigraphy
of the excavation, the dish-making workshop belongs to
the 3rd-2nd centuries BC.
A building whose walls were constructed of raw
bricks (43×43 cm) was erected on top of the kilns under
oval-planned building I. The pits dug in the period of
this building intersected the floors of the kilns.
