Importance of tourism
The tourism industry as part of the service sector has become an important source of income for many regions and even entire countries. The 1980 Manila Declaration on World Tourism recognized its importance as "an activity essential to the life of peoples because of its direct impact on the social, cultural, educational and economic spheres of national societies and their international relations."
Tourism brings a large amount of income to the local economy in the form of payments for goods and services required by tourists, which as of 2011 accounted for 30 percent of the world's trade in services and 6 percent of total exports as invisible exports. goods and services. It also creates employment opportunities in the service sector of the tourism-related economy. It is also claimed that travel expands the mind.
Hospitality industries that benefit from tourism include transportation services (eg, airlines, cruise ships, transit, trains, and taxis); accommodation (including hotels, hostels, houses, resorts and rooms for rent); and entertainment venues (such as theme parks, restaurants, casinos, festivals, shopping malls, music venues, and theaters)). This is in addition to goods purchased by tourists, including souvenirs.
On the other hand, tourism can destroy people and bad relations between host and guest. Tourism also often puts additional pressure on local environments.
The economic foundations of tourism are mainly cultural assets, cultural assets and the nature of the travel destination. World heritage sites deserve special attention today because they are real tourist magnets. However, even the current or former form of government of a country can be decisive for tourism. For example, the glamor of the British Royal Family brings millions of tourists to the UK every year, and thus an economy of around £550 million a year. In Central Europe, the Habsburg family can be mentioned. It is estimated that the Habsburg brand should generate 60 million euros in tourism sales per year for Vienna alone. The tourist principle "Habsburg sells" applies.
Tourism, cultural heritage and UNESCO Cultural and natural heritage are in many cases the absolute basis for world tourism. Cultural tourism is one of the megatrends, which is reflected in a large number of overnight stays and sales. As UNESCO increasingly observes, cultural heritage is essential to tourism, but is threatened by it. "ICOMOS - International Cultural Tourism Charter" adopted in 1999 already solves all these problems. As a result of tourism risks, for example, the Lascaux cave has been rebuilt for tourists. Overturizmbu is an important word in the field. In addition, UNESCO aims to ensure the protection of cultural heritage in war zones to maintain an important future economic base for local populations. There is intensive cooperation between UNESCO, the United Nations, United Nations peacekeeping forces and International Blue Shield. There are extensive international and national considerations, studies and programs to protect cultural assets from the effects of tourism and war. In particular, it is about the training of civilian and military personnel. But the participation of local people is especially important. Carl von Habsburg, founder of Blue Shield International, concluded by saying, "Without the local community and local participants, this would not have been possible."8
