course requirements.
Reading Education Program - Graduate
Reading Committee: (1999-2005) Developed new Master’s in Literacy Education. Worked on obtaining ISBE
approval for Type 10 Reading Specialist Program. Developed new courses CI 325, CI 520, CI 525, CI
578, and CI 591. Developed new NCATE syllabi for CI 338, CI 323, 506, 521, 525, 540, 571, 572 and
573, incorporating new literacy techniques and assessments and trained new faculty to teach these
courses. For the reading clinic, I contacted clients, wrote letters of acceptance, ordered materials,
implemented a reading incentive program, set up a new clinic classroom, added computers, and
developed the Cougar Literacy Lab Newsletter.
Elementary Education Program- Undergraduate
Elementary Education Undergraduate Committee: (Fall 1999 to Spring 2010) Redesigned Elementary
Education Program (first into Professional Development School 2 year cohorts, now Partnership Program
with Rural, urban, and metropolitan field placements at the elementary and middle school levels), wrote
reading and early literacy part of NCATE report.
Early Childhood Education Program- Undergraduate
* Early Childhood Education Undergraduate Committee: (Fall 1999 to Spring 2008). In Summer and Fall 2007,
Redesigned Early Childhood Education program, developed new course with B. Searcy, CI 424 Literacy
Strategies (K-3) and renamed and adapted CI 323 Literacy Development CI 323. Fall 2004 Redesigned
Early Childhood Education program, developed new course CI 325 and developed new syllabi for CI 323
and CI 521 incorporating early literacy assessment and new Illinois Standards, trained adjunct faculty to
teach these courses, worked with the Early Childhood Center in providing staff development and
opportunities for our students, and helped to develop forms for student evaluation.

program. Developed new options including IN-STEP for graduate students to earn their initial elementary
education certification
