Elementary Program Curriculum Committee: Spring 2000-Fall 2001. Aligned the elementary program
standards with NCATE, ISBE, PDS (Professional Development School) Standards and School of
Education Conceptual Framework Standards.
Elementary Education Partnership Committee: 2002-2004. Support the Develop Elementary Education
Partnerships.
Professional Development Schools Curriculum Committee: Spring and Summer 2000. Wrote and received
Excellence in Undergraduate Education grant. Developed the curriculum based on NCATE and State
Standards with five colleagues.
Professional Development School (PDS) Committees: Fall 2000-Spring 2002. Participated in the
development of the one year Belleville Area PDS Spring 2000 and the two year Alton Elementary and
Middle School PDS.
Alton Professional Development School Committee: Fall 2000-Spring 2001. Participated in the development
of a two year elementary and middle school programs. Planned and carried out integrated instruction and
was the school coordinator for Lovejoy Elementary and supervised students there. Attended weekly
meetings for the Alton PDS.
Belleville Area Professional Development School Committee: Spring 2000. Participated in the development
of the one year Belleville Area. Planned and carried out Reading and Language Arts instruction for the
elementary program and supervised students at Whiteside Elementary School,

Reviewed applications and transcripts, evaluated requests, wrote letters of acceptance or denial to
applicants, conducted hearings of grievances.
* Graduate Admissions and Review Committee, (Elected Chair and member, Fall 2005-2010). Reviewed
applications and determine criteria for admission to various graduate programs.
* Professional Affairs Committee: (Elected Chair 2009-2010 and member Fall 2005-2010). Review vitae,
tenure and promotion papers, and determine merit pay.
* Curriculum Committee, (Elected Chair and member: Fall 2002-2010). Developed, reviewed, and presented
to faculty new programs and courses.
* Technology Committee: (Elected member Fall 2004-Spring 2008). Discuss and select technology for the
department.
* C and I Department Chair Search Committee, (Chair and member Fall 2007-Spring 2008) Review applicants
and recommended to the dean to hire an external senior level chair for the Department of Curriculum and
Instruction.
* Search Committee: (2010, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2000, 2005, 2004, 2002, and 2001): (Frequently the search
committee chair). Reviewed candidates’ files, interviewed candidates over the phone and in person,
escorted them during their visits, submitted documents to dean to recommend faculty for Literacy,
Language Arts, Reading, Children’s Literature, Content Area Reading, Early Childhood, and Professional
Development School positions.
* First Annual Inquiry Conference (Co-Chair with Gloria Reading, 2006-2007). Developed a conference for
graduate students to present their final action research projects to all elementary education
undergraduates, peers, and faculty. Included Keynote speaker from UMSL and lunch.
Mission Statement Committee (chair)- Develop and propose a Curriculum and Instruction Mission Statement
(Fall 2004-Spring 2005)
Search Committee, Chair for Literacy Faculty position, member for Children’s Literature and Science (Fall
2001-Spring 2002).
Field Two Faculty Committee: Integrated curriculum with other Field Two Faculty, Fall 1999 to 2003.
Student Teaching Faculty: Attended student teaching seminars and presented effective teaching practices
and professional expectations.
Instructional Materials Center and Reading Center Committee: (Spring 2004-2005) Monthly meetings to
evaluate our needs and developed plans for better utilization of resources and space.
Reading Recovery Site Director and Fiscal Officer: Summer 2000-Summer 2001. Managed a grant and
program that had a significant debt when I became the fiscal officer. Through year-long meetings and
conversations, I obtained state and school district funding and reduced the debt by $30,000. In order to
provide Reading Recovery literacy training in the area, I helped set up this program in a local school
district. Planned a successful Reading Recovery Graduation with Dean, Mary Polite and Provost, Sharon
Haas in attendance along with newspaper photographers, May 16, 2001.

* Literacy Program Director: June 2005- Present, Organize meetings to write NCATE Reports and IRA SPA
reports, Collect and analyze program data, Graduate School Reports, program development, and
program assessment, developed and in charge of the Cougar Literacy Clinic, and the Reading Center.
Supervise secretary and graduate assistants for the Literacy Program and Reading Center.
