•  Reading Improvement Committee: participated in the development and implementation of three new 

reading kits:  third grade, ESL/Bilingual, Early Reading Support, and “Meeting the Challenge:  

Professional Development Series”, Fall 2000- 2002. Attended meeting October 12, 2001, Springfield, 

IL.   

•  Early Reading Support Kit Committee: Author and developer of reading kit given to every reading 

teacher in the state of Illinois, day-long meetings in April 25, 2001, May 2, 2001, May 23, 2001, 

Springfield, IL, then reviewed via e-mail.  

•  Researcher for Illinois State Board of Education Research Grant:  Illinois Snapshot of Early Literacy 

(ISEL), assessment developed by Becky Barr and Camile Blachowitz, August 2001- June 2004. Illinois 

Snapshot of Early Literacy (ISEL) Program Coordinator for Region 5 in Illinois. ISEL training and testing 

at Kreitner and Twin Echo Elementary Schools in Collinsville School District, and Jefferson Elementary 

School, Belleville School District. 

 

Illinois Reading Council: (2000-Present) 

Board Member, Attend and present at yearly conferences, Leadership Conference July 6-8, 2011 

•  Member of College Instructors of Reading professional (2000-Present).  In May 2011 wrote a 

collaborative white paper and individual letter to ISBE in response to the inappropriate changes in 

reading certification. 

•  President of College Instructors of Reading Professional (CIRP) 2007-2008- During my year as 

president, I wrote a letter to Dr. Christopher Koch, Illinois State School Superintendent in regards to the 

neglected, but important role Reading Specialists should play in guiding and supporting the Response 

to Intervention Initiative.  It was unanimously voted on by the IRC Board and was sent.  

•  President Elect of College Instructors of Reading Professional (CIRP) 2006-2007 

•  Member of the College Instructors of Reading Professional (CIRP) collaborative with the Illinois State 

Board of Education, March 2000-2011, Springfield, IL. Meet in Springfield to provide input into reading 

certification requirements, certification tests, reading programs, reading clinics, reading assessments 

and materials, and supporting college professors in informing pre-service teachers about the Illinois 

Learning Standards and goals of the statewide reading initiative. 

•  Participated in most IRC Board of Directors Meetings (Fall 2006- Spring 2011) 

•  Participated in the Illinois Reading Council Leadership Retreat, Utica, IL,  July 6-8, 2011 

•  Participated in Illinois Reading Council Leadership Training:  Lewis and Clark Officer Training, Normal, 

IL, June 15, 2001 and June 2000. 

•  Presented, attended, and met with Illinois State Board of Education at the Illinois Reading Council’s 

Annual Conferences, March 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2011 listed under refereed papers 

and presentations.  

•  Supported graduate students during their poster presentations and the preservice teachers at the 

Friday night session and party, at several of the annual conferences.    

•  Published two articles in The Illinois Reading Council Journal.
