Centuries Yasemin Demircan Abstract After the Ottomans conquered Lemnos, which is dominating the Straits in the Aegean Sea, as in many other parts of the empire, they acted with an endeavor to preserve the compo- nents that constituted an important role within the social life on the island. Thus, the monasteries, which occupied an im- portant function within the religious life as well as within the agricultural production, maintained a place within the newly established Ottoman administration. The registrations in the Tahrir Defters, which constitute the source of this study, give important explanatory information on the state of the monas- teries, under Ottoman rule, which had been established as a part of the religious needs of the people on Lemnos. This in- formation covers data on the development of monasteries un- der Ottoman rule between the periods of the Tahrir registra- tions, their positions and status on the Island and their state within the Ottoman administration. Within the framework marked up by the data contained in the Tahrir, the position of the monasteries on Lemnos for a period of approximately 100 years under Ottoman rule is being investigated. Таким образом, монастыри, вносившие важный вклад как в религиозную жизнь, так и в сельскохозяйственное производство на острове, заняли установленное место в османской администрации. Записи кадастровых книг тахрир, составляющих источниковую базу данного исследования, предоставляют важную пояснительную информацию о развитии монастырей, созданных в рамках религиозных потребностей жителей острова Лемнос, в различные периоды османского правления, а также об их местонахождении и статусе в османской администрации. В данной статье исследовано положение монастырей на острове Лемнос в течение примерно 100-летнего правления Османской империи на острове в рамках записей кадастровых книг тахрир.
