Columbia üniversitelerinde sanat felsefesi e¤itimi gördü.
S›ras›yla siyaset bilimi doktoru ve siyasal düflünceler
doçenti oldu. 1976’dan bu yana sanat elefltirmeni ve
kuramc›s› olarak çal›fl›yor. ODTÜ, Bilkent, Columbia,
Princeton, University of Michigan üniversitelerinden
sonra, flimdi Sabanc› Üniversitesi Sanat ve Sosyal
Bilimler Fakültesi’nde ders veriyor. Kültür Bakanl›¤›’nda
dan›flman olarak çal›flt›. Siyaset bilimi, sanat kuram› ve
Türk edebiyat› ba¤lam›nda yay›nlanm›fl eserleri var.
Gazetelerde köfle yaz›lar› yay›nlan›yor, ayr›ca TV8’de bir
program haz›rlay›p sunuyor. 
Born in 1957 in Kars, Turkey. He majored in Civil
Engineering at Gazi University, and received his
masters degree on economics at Hacettepe University.
Studied Philosophy of Art at New York and Columbia
Universities. Received his doctorate degree on
Political Science, and assistant professorship on
political thought. He works as an art critic and theorist.
He taught at Middle East Technical University and
Bilkent University in Ankara, Columbia, Princeton and
University of Michigan. Currently teaches at Sabanc›
University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Worked as an advisor at the Turkish Ministry of
Culture. He has printed works on political science,
theory of art and Turkish literature. His articles were
printed in newspapers, and he prepares and hosts a
TV show.

Elli iki yafl›ndaki Juan Villegas, yirmi y›ld›r
çal›flt›¤› garajdan kovuluyor ve bir anda kendini
iflsiz buluyor. Juan’a, Bombon ad›nda, kocaman ve
beyaz, safkan bir köpek hediye ediliyor. Juan da bu köpek
arac›l›¤›yla veteriner Walter ile tan›fl›yor. Asabi mizaçl›
Walter, köpe¤ini yar›flmalardan birine sokmas›
konusunda Juan’› ikna ediyor ve Bombon’un
kazanmas›yla iki adam da karfl›lar›nda yeni bir kap›
aç›labilece¤ini fark ediyorlar. Bombon’u e¤iterek bu yolla
çok para kazanma hayali kurmaya bafllayan ikili, bu
sevimli ve iyi huylu köpe¤in ne derecede baflar›l›
olabilece¤i konusunda fazla bir fikre sahip de¤il. ‹lk
etapta köpek gösteri yar›flmalar› hakk›nda komik ve
nefleli bir öykü gibi görünen film, nereden ve kimden
gelirse gelsin, bazen sevginin ne denli iyilefltirici bir gücü
olabilece¤i üzerinden gelifliyor. Carlos Sorín önceki filmi
Arjantin Hikâyeleri’nde oldu¤u gibi yine Patagonya’dan
memleket ve insan manzaralar›n› resmediyor.
Terkedilmifllik hissini pekifltiren, zengin ile fakir
karfl›tl›¤›n›n fazlas›yla belirgin oldu¤u bu topraklar›n
otantik dokusunu da alabildi¤ine kullan›yor. Arjantinli
yönetmen, yaln›z bir adam›n dört ayakl› arkadafl›
arac›l›¤›yla yaflama ba¤lanma sürecini ifllerken de bize
“küçük” dünyalar›n, hiç de yabanc›s› olmad›¤›m›z
evrensel “kayg›lar›n›” yans›tmay› baflar›yor.

F›fty-two year old Juan V›llegas ›s f›red from the
garage he’s been work›ng at for the last twenty
years and f›nds h›mself unemployed.
He receives a
gift: a big, white, thoroughbred dog named Bombon.
Through this dog, Juan meets Walter, the vet. The hot-
tempered Walter convinces Juan to enter his dog in a
competition and when the dog wins it, they both realize
they have a whole new set of opportunities before them.
Though they’ve already started to dream of making a lot
of money by training Bombon, the two don’t have
much of an idea as to how successful this cute and
good-natured dog can be. The film, which at first seems
to be a funny and joyful story about dog showcases,
develops into a story about love being a powerful
healer, no matter whom or what its source may be.
Carlos Sorín depicts the country and the people of
Patagonia, just as he did in his previous film, Historias
Mínimas. He makes very good use of the authentic
texture of this land which intensifies the feeling of
being forsaken, a place where the contrast between the
rich and the poor is stark. Dealing with a lone man’s 
re-attachment to the world through his four-legged
friend, the Argentine director succeeds in depicting the
very familiar universal “worries” of “small” worlds.

Venedik’te Gümüfl Aslan ödülü kazanan ilk filmi 1986 yap›m› La
Pelicula del Rey ve 1989 yap›m› Eversmile New Jersey’den sonra uzun
süre reklam filmleri çekti. 2002 y›l›nda yeniden sinemaya döndü ve
Historias Mínimas / Arjantin Hikâyeleri ile San Sebastian’da Jüri Özel
Ödülü ve En ‹yi Yabanc› Film dal›nda Goya Ödülü’ne lay›k görüldü.
Bombon, Köpek son filmidir. 
Following his directorial debut with La pelicula del Rey in 1986
with which he received many awards including
the Silver Lion in Venice, and his 1989 feature
Eversmile New Jersey, he spent a long time
dedicated to commercials. In 2002, he returned
to features with Historias Mínimas which won
the Jury Prize at San Sebastian and the Goya
Award for Best Foreign Film. Bombón, the Dog
is his latest feature.

evlenmeyen Ursula, ‹ngiltere’de küçük bir sahil

In a small Engl›sh coastal town, two elderly
s›sters lead an orderly l›fe. Janet has lost her
husband ›n World War I, and Ursula ›s a sp›nster.
When they discover an unconscious young man lying
on the beach, their static life is suddenly swept off-
track. This charming man’s name is Andrea, a native
Pole with no English. They bring the wounded youth
inside, and it turns out that he is a skilful violin player,
which attracts both the attention and the curiosity of
the town. However, Andrea’s charisma and the vibrant
tunes from his violin rekindle suppressed jealousies,
old sibling rivalries, and unfulfilled dreams of love.
At the heart of this delicate directorial debut from
veteran actor Charles Dance, lies Dance’s
understanding as an actor of how to present his cast,
and the perfect couple Dames Judi Dench and Maggie
Smith form. “They have a kind of eternal youth about
them, those two ladies. When I read the story, I just
thought about them. It’s a small film, a chamber film.
It’s about older people experiencing emotions that
mainstream film-makers assume can only be
experienced by 15 to 21-year olds. Why shouldn’t a
woman in her 60s fall in love for the first time in her
life? And what if her sister is somebody who has
already been through that?”

Lavanta Kokulu Kad›nlar, bugüne kadar elliden fazla filmde rol alan
Dance’in yönetti¤i ilk filmdir.

international attention in the acclaimed English TV series The
“Jewel in the Crown” (1984-1985). He first starred in Hollywood
appearing as Meryl Streep’s husband in Plenty (1985). He portrayed
diverse personalities such as the director D.W.
Griffith in Taviani Brothers’ Good Morning
Babylon, Sigourney Weaver’s love interest in
Alien 3 and the villain with the explosive glass
eye in Last Action Hero. He returned to the stage
in 1999 with “Good”. Ladies in Lavender is the
first feature-length film of Dance who starred in
more than 50 films.
