yap›mc›s› olan yazar ve yönetmen Lucile Hadzihalilovic
ile yine Noé’nin Irréversible / Dönüfl Yok’unun görüntü
yönetmeni Benoît Debie’den bir ortak çal›flma. “1888’de
Alman oyun yazar› Frank Wedekind’in yazd›¤› bu simgeci
k›sa öyküyü bir arkadafl›m tavsiye etti. Senaryoyu
yazarken, iflin en önemli yan›n›n her fleyi aç›klamaya
çal›flmamak oldu¤unu farkettim. Herhangi bir aç›klama,
tüm yap›n›n iskambil k⤛tlar›ndan yap›lm›flças›na
y›k›lmas›na sebep oluyordu. Öykü herhangi bir cevap
vermeden ne kadar ilerlerse, kayg› o kadar art›yor.
Sonra bir de hepsinin alt›nda, k›zlar›n asl›nda öncelikle
üremek için haz›rland›¤› biçimindeki o zalimane kanaat
var. Sorular›n cevaplar› olmad›¤› gibi, öykünün ahlaki bir

Ins›de a park ›n a forest, surrounded by houses, a
group of small g›rls gathers around a coff›n. The
coff›n l›d opens, reveal›ng a s›x-year old g›rl, Ir›s.
She is the newest student in a mysterious school with
no boys and no adults, and where the oldest girl
disappears every evening at nine, when a rumble is
heard. From the editor and producer of Gaspar Noé’s
Seul contre tous, writer and director Lucile
Hadzihalilovic, and the cinematographer of Irréversible,
Benoît Debie. “A friend suggested I read this symbolist
short story, written in 1888 by the German playwright
Frank Wedekind. When writing the script, I realized
that above all, I shouldn’t try to explain everything.
Any explanation brought the whole edifice tumbling
down like a house of cards. I tried to transcribe in the
film what I felt when reading the story. Starting with
questions about what all this means. The further the
story progresses without giving any answers, the more
the anxiety builds. Just as there are no answers to the
questions, there’s no moral to the story either. I think
that for women it will be easier to identify with the
girls; they won’t ask too many questions about the
meaning of all this. I portray the way this school works
without saying whether it is good or bad.”

Cinématographiques’te sinema okudu. Belgesellerde ve konulu
filmlerde kurguculuk yapt›. Uzun süredir Gaspar Noé ile çal›fl›yor.
Yönetmen olarak imza att›¤› ifller aras›nda La première mort de Nono
(1987) ve Good Boys Use Condoms (1998) adl› k›sa filmler ve uzun
metraj La Bouche de Jean-Pierre (1996) var. Masumiyet, ikinci uzun
metraj sinema filmi.
Born in Lyon, and studied filmmaking at the L’Institut des
Hautes Etudes Cinématographiques in Paris.
She worked as an editor of documentaries and
features and is a long time collaborator with
Gaspar Noé. Her work as a director includes the
short films La première mort de Nono (1987),
and Good Boys Use Condoms (1998), and the
feature La Bouche de Jean-Pierre (1996).
Innocence is her second feature film.

Elisa, yuvas›n› da¤›tmamak için pasifist bir strateji izler:
Anne sevecenli¤i ve yak›n dost anlay›fl›yla Gilles’e
yaklafl›p onun Victorine ile iliflkisine katlan›r. Victorine’e
tutulan Gilles, çocuksu bir inatla iliflkinin
yürümeyece¤ini görmezlikten gelirken ayn› çocuksulukla,
anlay›fll› Elisa’ya minnet duyar. Elisa, geleneksel

A Pornographic Affair, succeed›ng ›n approach›ng
male-female relat›ons from a fresh perspect›ve.
He surprises us yet again with an adaptation of
Madeleine Bourdouxhe’s novel, Gilles’ Wife. He deals
with a love triangle within the bounds of classic film
language that relies on atmosphere and acting, and
captures visual perfection. The main character of the
story set in Northern France of the 30s is Elisa, “Gilles’
Wife” – the not-quite-eponymous protagonist.
Somewhat beautiful, plain, serene woman; a housewife
who loves her family. Her modest, serious husband,
whose third child she carries, is seduced by her
beautiful sister Victorine. The feline-eyed Victorine’s
only problem is that she can’t have enough fun in the
small town despite her beauty. Elisa follows a pacifist
strategy to hold her marriage together: She approaches
Gilles with friendship and motherly love, and endures
his affair. Smitten with Victorine, Gilles ignores with
child-like obstinacy the fact that the relationship will
not work, and in a similarly child-like manner, is
grateful to Elisa. Elisa, on the other hand, by not
reacting in the usual manner of betrayed women,
attacks them with a wholly different but extremely
feminine arsenal.

Born in Uccle, Belgium. After studying at
l’Institut des Arts de Diffusion, Belgium, he
made several short films before directing his
first feature, Max et Bobo (1997). Une liaison
pornographique / A Pornographic Affair (1999)
received international acclaim.
