2.2. Structural characteristic and classification of construction terms in English

Terminological vocabulary develops and replenishes extremely quickly. The meaning of this lexical layer and its share in the general vocabulary of the language are increasing all the time. Changes occurring in the composition of a specific terminological system reflect changes in the content of the corresponding concepts, which, in turn, indicate the degree of study of a particular phenomenon, an object of reality. This is the so-called extra-linguistic or extra-linguistic side of terminology ordering. But there is also another - intra-linguistic or linguistic ordering of terms. Terminological vocabulary as part of the vocabulary of the language has a number of interesting properties. It is on the material of terminological vocabulary that the action of the laws of language, mainly derivational ones, is most clearly manifested. The study of the features of word formation in the language of science and technology is of undoubted interest, since a correct understanding of the laws of modern terminological word formation will help the implementation of practical term creation⁵⁴.

In order to identify the variable characteristics of construction terminology, we will try to give a structural characteristic of the studied lexical sphere. Structural features of any term system are an extremely important factor in the study, systematization and use of its units⁵⁵. The study of any terminology currently pursues not only scientific, but also practical goals. Terms, even whole term systems have been the subject of research from a linguistic, logical and scientific-philosophical point of view⁵⁶. That is why we consider it important not only to describe the construction terminology system, but also to study the methods of formation and ways of replenishing construction terminology. Depending on productivity, scientists distinguish different ways of forming terms. The main source of creation of new terms, enrichment of the terminological fund and improvement of individual terminological systems of the language are its internal resources. The replenishment of the language of science with new words occurs through the use of morphemes existing in the language and their new combination⁵⁷. In the field of English terminology, there are several ways of forming terms: semantic, syntactic and morphological. G.Kh. Shamseeva believes that the methods of forming terms depend on the time of the formation of terminological systems. G.I. Litvinenko and A.N. Dyadechko note that for new objects of the nomination, all methods of word formation existing in a given language, any lexical resources of the national language, resources of the international vocabulary fund, vocabulary of other national languages ​​are used. At the same time, terminological word formation does not mechanically repeat the methods of forming common vocabulary. There is a kind of "natural selection" of those methods and specific means of word formation that would meet the requirements for the nominations of special concepts. And this ultimately boils down to the selection and formation of derivational morphemes and whole derivational models specialized in the expression of certain values⁵⁸.

Any terminology consists of a set of simple (one-word) and compound (terminological phrases) terms, as well as relations connecting these elements.

We carried out a structural analysis of the accumulated corpus of construction terms, as a result of which the following types of them were identified.
