Philosophical discourse 
(summary) 
 
The webpage of “World of philosophy” (www.felsefedunyasi.org) holds 
“philosophical discourse” twice a month on behalf of mobilizing intelligentsia for 
the discussion of philosophical issues. At every “discourse” “Felsefe dunyasi” puts 
a question which interested society or famous philosophers throughout history and 
best answers appear on the webpage. The question is discussed in a philosophical 
seminar twice a month, the authors of the best three questions are invited to the 
“Felsefe dunyasi” for the awarding and information and photos about awarding 
ceremony appear on the webpage.

(www.felsefedunyasi.org) дважды в месяц проводит «Философский дискурс». 
В каждом дискурсе читателям задается вопрос, исторически интересовавший 
общество  либо  выдающихся  философов.  Самые  интересные  ответы  разме-
щаются на сайте. Дважды в месяц проводится научно-философский семинар, 
посвященный  обсуждению  поставленного  вопроса.  Авторы  трех  наиболее 
интересных  ответов  приглашаются  в  «Мир  философии»  для  награждения. 
Информация об этом вместе с фотоснимками размещается на сайте.

A human bridge between the two cultures  
 
 
I deem it a privilege to add a few words to the tribute being paid to 
Professor Salahaddin Khalilov by his colleagues and friends. 
From my acquaintance with Professor Khalilov, which started by his 
participation in The Third World Congress of Phenomenology held by The 
World Phenomenology Institute at Oxford University in August 2004. I had 
the opportunity to witness with admiration his many sided philosophical

knowledge, matched by rare organizational skills. The two symposia orga-
nized by him at The Azerbaijan University in 2004 and most recently in No-
vember 2005, have gathered numerous Azerbaijanian scholars who follow 
his inspiration.  
Professor Khalilov seems to belong to these rare Philosophers who, 
like Bertrand Russell, combine a profound knowledge of the fields in which 
he works with a wide range of interests and by awareness of the cultural 
climate and urgencies of his time. Conviction that only Philosophy may 
enlighten humankind and conduct it on the right path, seems to dominate his 
frame of mind. 
Grounded in both, the Eastern and Western cultures, ancient as well as 
contemporary philosophies – Suhravardi as well as Kant – he has appeared 
at our European conferences personifying a human bridge between the two 
cultures. A bridge he is aiming at in his pioneering writings about East and 
West. 
I close this modest note with my sincere wishes for the progress in this 
lofty task.

 birthday a noteworthy event not only for the 
academic community of Azerbaijan but for the international community of 
academics and scholars in philosophy and science in general.  
Your highly esteemed service in the position of Head of the Depart-
ment, Rector in the University of Azerbaijan, as well as in the current posi-
tion of the Chairman of AFSEA, along with service in many other positions 
of academic, pedagogical and political responsibility, has brought signi-
ficant benefit to those institutions where you served. The circulation of more 
than 40 books and 300 scientific articles has created over the years a very 
positive impact for the profound and high quality level work that you have 
so laboriously produced in the field of philosophy and socio-political 
sciences. In this letter I would like to make special reference to the influen-
tial several analyses on the interconnections of science with economy, tech-
nology, language, religion, education, literature; also, on the important in-
sights derived on the religious relations between East and West, an issue of 
rising interest, with such a plethora of implications on modern intercultural 
research. 
Your distinguished presence among us, as member of the Editorial 
Board of our Journal, provides me with the unique opportunity of adding a 
few lines of commendation on all those arduous and productive years of 
scientific production from your part, which has been imbued by a constant 
and devoted pursuit of excellence. Allow me to remark that its standards 
certainly comprise a continuous exemplar for younger scientists in Azerbai-
jan and elsewhere. Please kindly accept my most sincere wishes for a long 
yet to come and continuously substantial contribution to international phi-
losophy studies.
