Konklusion


I dette afsnit vil vi samle op på på de antagelser og hypoteser, som er præsenteret i indledningen og som danner baggrund for dette speciale.

  • Vedrørende hypotese 1 kan det konkluderes, at der ingen resultater er på RSE (selvværd) som effektmål. Hypotesen kan dermed ikke bekræftes.

  • Vedrørende hypotese 2 kan det konkluderes, at der ingen resultater er på SCS (self-compassion) som effektmål. Hypotesen kan dermed ikke bekræftes.

  • Vedrørende hypotese 3 kan det konkluderes, at priming til dissonans medfører nedsat tendens til at være opmærksomhedssøgende målt på IOS subskalaen attention (interpersonel orientering).

  • Vedrørende hypotese 4 kan det konkluderes, at der ingen resultater er på RRQ (rumination) som effektmål. Hypotesen kan dermed ikke bekræftes.

  • Vedrørende hypotese 5 det kan konkluderes, at primingen medfører signifikante resultater på dissonansemotionsskalaen i én ud af fire eksperimentelle varianter. Sammenlagt med eksperimenter fra efteråret 2014, hvor denne skala også er anvendt, er der nu tre ud af seks eksperimenter, hvor priming har medført signifikante resultater på dissonansemotionsskalaen. Denne hypotese kan dermed hverken be- eller afkræftes og bør udforskes yderligere.

Empirien har imidlertid tilvejebragt yderligere resultater. Her bør det bemærkes, at følgende konklusioner knytter sig til dele af eksperimenterne, der kan betragtes som ekplorative. Dermed foretages konklusionerne med forsigtighed.

Der forekommer som nævnt sekundære main effects, som peger på at dissonanspriming medfører øget grad af selvopmærksomhed, moralsk self-enhancement og selv-venlighed. Disse sekundære main-effects indikerer dersuden, at dissonansprimingen er længere tid om at sætte sig igennem end først antaget. Samtidig diskuteres det, hvorvidt dissonansprimingen kan betragtes som svag, hvilket kan medføre nødvendigheden af at overveje, om der bør være flere forsøgsdeltagere. Begge dele bør fremtidigt medtænkes i forhold til en yderligere udforskning af dissonansmekanismen, såfremt samme priming anvendes til formålet. Samtidig kan dette tidsaspekt og styrken af priming have haft indflydelse på resultaterne vedrørende hypotese 1, 2 og 4.

Anvendelsen af moderatorer i analysen tilvejebringer resultater, som peger på, at populationsforskelle har indflydelse på, hvorvidt og hvordan primingen sætter sig igennem. Disse resultater fremkommer udelukkende som følge af beslutningen om at kontrollere for bestemte populationsforskelle i form af de primære effektmål (dikotomiseret). Dermed kan det konkluderes, at fremtidig forskning med fokus på dissonansmekanismen bør inddrage moderatorer, da priming til dissonans tilsyneladende ikke blot har én virkning, men forskellige virkninger, alt efter hvem, der primes.

Vedrørende dissonansmekanismen kan vi konkludere, at dissonans lader til at sætte sig igennem over længere tid end tidligere forventet. Samtidig antager vi, at dissonansmekanismen understøtter såvel flexibilitet som stabilitet og dermed kan betragtes som en særdeles dynamisk mekanisme. I relation til psykens immunsystem finder vi det plausibelt at antage, at psyken netop har brug for en mekanisme som varetager stabilitet gennem forandring. Det er sandsynligvis denne rolle dissonansmekanismen spiller i psykens immunsystem.


Perspektiverende overvejelser




  • Dissonansmekanismen betragtes i dette speciale som en dynamisk og konsistenssøgende mekanisme. En del af at forstå dissonansmekanismen indebærer at forstå, hvor den kommer fra – hvis dissonansmekanismen løser udfordringer, som har at gøre med at opnå og bevare konsistens, da må dissonansmekanismen være udviklet på et tidspunkt i evolutionen, hvor behovet for at være og fremstå konsistent blev nødvendigt. Det forekommer relevant at gøre sig overvejelser vedrørende dissonansmekanismens evolutionære udvikling for at forstå dens ophav og berettigelse som en del af psykens immunsystem.

  • Dissonansprimingen interagerer med interpersonelle forskelligheder i dette eksperimentelle studie. Det bør overvejes, hvilke yderligere interpersonelle forskelligheder dissonans interagerer med. Dette er et perspektiv som i højere grad bør medtænkes indenfor forskning af dissonans med henblik på at uddybe forståelsen endnu mere.

  • Antagelsen om et psykisk immunsystem indebærer yderligere, at vi bør gøre os overvejelser omkring hvilke implikationer denne antagelse har for udredning, diagnostik og behandling.

    • Ligeledes bør det overvejes, hvorvidt og hvorledes interpersonelle forskelligheder interagerer med bestemte former for psykologisk behandling. Denne overvejelse implicerer, at en behandling som fungerer succesfuldt for den ene, kan have katastrofale følger for den anden.
