The book referred to Islamic values dealing with
foodstuff and nutrition, versicles addressing foodstuff
on the Koran, hadiths of our prophet and imams and
information of authors who have written valuable
books in this field.
The book used God’s words regarding the issue in
question from 128 versicles of 41 statements of the
Koran that were interpreted in relevant parts of the
book.
The book briefs on main foodstuffs and food items and
allowed and prohibited foodstuffs are provided based
on versicles of the Koran. Every Muslim should be
governed by the versicle “People! Eat only allowed,
clean foodstuffs on the earth…” (The Heifer, Al-
Baqarah, 2/168) declared by the God in his/her daily
392
nutrition. Pork, animals slaughtered in other names
than God, ded animal, blood, alcoholic drinks
(everything that makes people boozy), drugs and other
goods harmful to human being are considered
prohibited for a Muslim.
As can be seen from the information under the heading
of “There is no life without water”, human being
should take 2800-3000 ml water on a daily basis with
all meals, 1000-1200 ml of which should be
constituted of water, tea and other soft drinks. This part
provides broad information on the use of fresh water,
water and beliefs, versicles on water declared on the
Koran (65 versicles of 35 statements) and zam-zam
water.
Islamic views on milk, which is considered as the vital
ointment in the nutrition of human being since his/her
birth, were indicated in versicles of the Koran 14
centuries ago. There is scientifically justified
information on evolution of milk, miracle of mother
milk and its physiological, biological and curing
importance in the nutrition of infants, chemical
composition and nutritional value and dietary
significance of milk and dairy products.
Meat and fish are the most important and irreplaceable
products in the nutrition of a human being. According
to the physiological norms, at least 190-220 g. meat
and 50-55 g. fish should be eaten on a daily basis. The
book broadly explains the
393
Islamic conditions for eating meat and fish. It provides
detailed comments on allowed and prohibited meat
products, chicken and other poultry, eggs and fish
which is the valuable source of nutrition.
Products of plant origin especially wheat, bread,
vegetables, fruits and relevant processed products have
a physiological importance in the nutrition of people.
Plant products contain sugar, organic acids, minerals,
vitamins and other biologically active matters that are
easily digested in the human organism. In this regard,
the book provides interesting information on Koran’s
fruits, such as olive, date and fig. Statements on how to
eat different vegetables and fruits will be very
interesting for readers.
The book provides detailed information on bee honey,
how it is generated, its curing importance and benefits
for human body.
Information about the salt, sugar and vinegar, culture
of eating-drinking and related statements are factors
that may interest readers.
Information on fasting, which is one of the main
principles of the Islam, as well as meaning of the
Ramadan, history of fasting, things leading to breaking
or not breaking of fasting, sundown and sunrise meals,
Al-Qadr (The night of power or Honour) and stories
dedicated all of these are full with historic and
interesting information.
394
In addition to foodstuffs, information on sins of the
wine which is prohibited in the life of Muslim,
statements about the wine, information on harms of
cigarette is interesting for the youth with its moral
importance.
While speaking about foodstuffs, their allowed (Halal)
and prohibited nature, it’s also very important to
interpret statements in the Koran addressing trade
issues, and inform readers about words on trade and
trading.
Nutritional value of foodstuffs, balanced food norms,
culture of eating, Islamic and modern principles of
effective nutrition are provided to readers with broad
and accurate information at the final part of the book.
It’s noteworthy to mention one and the main factor
while underscoring the content and scientific
importance of all writings contained in the book. All
scientific information on foodstuffs and nutrition that
is known to us today was indicated in versicles of the
Koran and statements of our prophet 14 centuries ago.
All information contained in the book tells mainly one
truth to us. News on foodstuffs and nutrition stated in
the Koran were proved with scientific
justifications in our days. It’s was impossible to
explain that information with the scientific
developments and technologies that was in place 14
