Qoruğun ərazisində tədqiqatlar 5 km-dək ərazini
əhatə edirdi.
Tədqiqatların aparıldığı əraziyə həmçinin Bö-
yük Qafqazın cənub yamaclarının Şirvan düzü ilə
əvəzləndiyi ərazilər, Qəbələ rayonunun inzibati
sərhədlərinin daxil olduğu ərazilər, Axarbaxar
silsiləsi (savalan) daxil edilmişdir (şək.17-18).
Bu ərazidə həmçinin Türyançayın terrasları da
daxil edilmişdir. Burada Paleolit tapıntılarına rast
gəlinməmişdir.
The first stop on the itinerary was the moun-
tain to the south-west of Gabala city (Fig.7). The
southern and eastern slopes of the mountain, as
well as the peak, were explored. Fragments of ce-
ramics belonging to the Middle Ages were found
on the peak of the mountain. This was reported to
the CEO of the Institute of Archaeology and Eth-
nography of the ANAS. The ascent of the mountain
was begun from the southern slope and the descent
was made to the bottom of the eastern slope to the
Sirtyengija and Demiraparan Rivers. Terraces of
the Demiraparan River were surveyed as well. A
stone hoe with two split negative bulbs (Fig.8) was
found on the southern slope. Unfortunately, this
unique find is inconclusive and it does not verify
that Paleolithic signs were found in this region.
The second stop on the itinerary was the Chom-
rad ridge. The ascent was begun from the southern
slope from the vicinity of Zirik and Dizakhly vil-
lages and continued further through the peaks from
the southernmost point to the westernmost point
– the Turyanchay River, the administrative bor-
der between Gabala and oghuz regions (Fig.9-13,
16). The descent of the mountain in the north was
from the westernmost point on the peak of Chom-
rad Mountain to the Girkhbulag River (Fig.15) and
Nij village. The remains of an Albanian church
(Fig.14) were explored on the northern slope.
In view of the fact that a Paleolithic artifact was
found in the vicinity of Savalan village, it would
be appropriate to repeat a survey of this area
(Fig.2-4), in particular, in the vicinities of Savalan
village, the terraces of the Sarisu and Turyanchay
Rivers and the territory of Turyanchay reserve lo-
cated to the east of the Savalan village - Agdash
city route. The total area surveyed was 5 km.
The Akharbakhar ridge (savalan), where in fact
the southern spurs of the Greater Caucasus reach
the Shirvan Steppe, up to the administrative border
of Gabala region (Fig.17-18), was also explored.
Terraces of the Turyanchay River were explored in
this area as well. There were no Paleolithic finds.

nəticə
Lakin
cənub yamaclarının dik sıldırımları, yüz min illər
boyunca sel sularının gətirdiyi daşlıqlar axtarışların
aparılmasını xeyli çətinləşdirirdi.
Paleolit düşərgələrinin tapılmasının daha müm-
kün olacağı ərazilər Böyük Qafqazın yamacların-
dan cənubda yerləşən düzənliklər, xüsusilə də iqlim
və geoloji dəyişikliklərin nəticəsində iki milyon
il əvvələ aid olan yataqların yuyulub üzə çıxdığı
yerlərdə ola bilər. Qəbələ rayonu ərazisinin müxtəlif

conclusion
The discovery in the first decade of the 21
st
cen-
tury of Early Paleolithic stations dating back 1.5
million years or more on the northern slopes of the
Greater Caucasus, i.e. in Dagestan, served as the im-
petus for carrying out surveys to uncover Paleolithic
signs in this region. These stations are: Mukhchay,
Aynikab, Darvagchay, etc. A 1.8-million-year-old
Paleolithic station was discovered at Dmanisi in
Georgia, not far from Azerbaijan’s western border
with Georgia.
These finds give rise to a logical question: how
did these early humans reach these places? And the
answer is logical as well: from the territory of mod-
ern-day Azerbaijan.
In view of this hypothesis, several attempts were
made to uncover traces of these humans on the
southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus. But the
steepness of the southern slopes, the abundance of
pebbles washed along by torrents over hundreds of
years made surveying this area difficult.
The possible areas where Paleolithic camps
might be found are the plains, located to the south
from the slopes of the Greater Caucasus, especially
the sites where climatic and geological changes have
expelled two million-year-old fields to the surface.
However, we cannot rule out the possibility that
there may be traces of Paleolithic activity on the
southern slopes. The finding of Paleolithic-shaped
artifacts in different areas of Gabala region makes
such surveys appropriate.

In late 2012, the investigations carried out in
the Kur-Araz lowland became evidence to this
theory. On the southern bank of the Mingachevir
reservoir, on the geological fields of the Absheron,
i.e. the strata with over one million years, the Garaja
Paleolithic camp were detected and stone labour
tools of primitive men were found there.
