LE RECIT DA

Le Vidéographe, Montréal
Eine sehr experimentelle,fast poetische
Arbeit über Andrew Small, deran Aids erkrankt
ist. EinThema auf solche Artzu bearbeiten, ist
sehr schwierig und gewagt, doch gerade hier-
aus beziehtdie Arbeitihre atmosphärische
Dichte. Ausdem Off erzählt Andrew über die
erste Konfrontation mit der Krankheit, ihren
Verlauf, seine Versuche, sein Leben neu einzu-
richten, Kraft aus Dingen zu ziehen, die
"vorher" unwichtig erschienen - ohne Selbst-
mitleid und falsches Pathos-miteiner Offen-
heit, aus der eine große persönliche Stärke
hervorscheint.
A very experimental, almost poetic work
on Andrew Small who is infected by AIDS. To
treat a topic in such a way is difficult and chal-
lenging but at the same time a moment of
strength and atmospheric intensity. Andrew's
off-voice tells the story of his illness, the first
confrontation, the attempts to cope with it, to
gain power out of things thatseemed unimpor-
tant "before". He is neithersorry for himself
nor pathetic, he describes his situation and his
feelings honestlythe way they are.
VOICES FROM THE FRONT
Testing the Limits
USA, 1990, ca. 90 Min.
Die Dokumentation geht den AIDS zugrun-
de liegenden sozialen Problemen nach, vor al-
lem dem von den Massenmedien meistver-
nachlässigtenAspektdesBewußwerdungs-
prozesses und derGemeinschaftsaktionen von
infizierten Personen. Dokumentiertwerden die
Unzulänglichkeiten des Gesundheitssystems
angesichts der AIDS-Krise, die Immobilitätder
Regierung bei steigenden Krankheitsfällen.
"Besonders gutwird beschrieben, wie persön-
liche Betroffenheitzu politischer Analyse und
Aktivitätführt." (Gay Community News).Vor
dem Hintergrund musikalischer Beiträge be-
nutzt das Band Interviews sowie dramatisches
Dokumentarmaterial, um überdie Rolle der
Medien, politische Organisierung derAIDS-
Infizierten,alternative Behandlungsmethoden,
und andereThemenzu berichten.
The documentation exploresAIDSandits
underlying social problems by documenting
that aspect of crisis most often ignored by the
mainstream media - the self empowerment and
community action of people living with AIDS
andHIVillness. Voices from the Front reports
on the inadequacies of the healthcare system
in the AIDS crisis, governmentimmobilityin the
face of ever increasing numbers of people with
AIDS, and, as described by G ay Community
News, "demonstrates especially well how
personal experience is transformed into tren-
chant political analysis and activism... ”
Against a backdrop of music a I contributions
the video is organized thematicallyand uses
intervie ws and dramatic on-site footage to
tackle issues like the role of the media; issues
ofPV/A empowermentin the form of organiza-
tions created by and for PWAs and HIV positi-
ves; experimentaltreatments and healthcare
in general; and many other issues.

die institutionalisierte Wahrhabung der Beamten. Der pro-

In 1989 shelters for women in Austria protected ca. 690
women against their aggressive male partners. An off-voi-

photography of this documentary on case histories, the
women's will to survive, the brutality of men, and the insti-
tutionalized truth personified by civil servants.
