THE CONCEPTION OF PERIODIZATION OF THE
HISTORY OF AZERBAIJAN LITERATURE
The suggested periodization:
1.
Ancient Azerbaijan literature.
-
The mythological beginning and folk poetry;
-
The epoch of epics: from common Turkish
monuments
to the national integrity;
-
Introduction to written literature (IX century).
2.
The Azerbaijan literature of early Renaissance (X-XI
centuries).
3.
The Azerbaijani literature of Renaissance (XII century).
4.
Medieval Azerbaijan literature (XIII-XVI centuries).
5.
The Azerbaijan literature of the early New period (XVII-
XVIII centuries).
6.
The Educational Realizm period of Azerbaijan literature
(XIX century).
7.
The Azerbaijan literature of the period of national-
democratic movement (from the 90s of the XIX century
to the repression of 1937).
8.
The stage of socialist Realizm in Azerbaijan literature (the
1920s-1960s).
9.
The Azerbaijan literature of the periods of early Present-
day and transition (1960-1995s).
10.
The period of independence of Azerbaijan literature
Prior to this, in the XX century science of literary studies
the periodization of Azerbaijan literature was as follows,
1.
Ancient Azerbaijan literature (from Antiquities to the XIII
century).
2.
Medieval Azerbaijan literature (XIII-XVIII centuries).
3.
The XIX century Azerbaijan literature.
4.
The early XX century Azerbaijan literature (1900-1920s).
The two periods of the XIX century and the early XX century
Azerbaijan literature were also called as one period - “The
new period Azerbaijan literature”.
5.
Azerbaijan Soviet literature (1920-1991s).
Lately this stage has also been introduced as “Modern
Azerbaijan literature”.
6.
The Azerbaijan literature of the period of independence
(the literature following 1991).
The Azerbaijani literature of the period of independence
is also called as “The Azerbaijan literature of the most
recent period”.
P.S. 1. During the Soviet regime, mostly the political and
historical views of the ruling ideology about the
development periods of human society were referred
to in the periodization of Azerbaijan literature.
2. At present the following principles have been taken
into account while re-defining the periods of the
multi-century history of Azerbaijan literature:
1.
The civilization factor
2. The realities of the literary-historical
processes
3. The literary trends in Azerbaijan
4. The
ideology of Azerbaijanism
In our opinion, the principles of the periodization of the
history of Azerbaijan literature should be specified, taken into
account while developing the history of national literature,
writing the school and University textbooks, and in the process
of scientific researches.

Предлагаемая периодизация:
1.
Литература
древнего Азербайджана
–
мифология и народная поэзия;
– эпоха создания эпосов: от среднетюркских памят-
ников к национальной целостности;
– начало создания письменной литературы (IX век).
2.
Азербайджанская литература эпохи Раннего Возрож-
дения (X-XI века).
3.
Азербайджанская литература эпохи Возрождения (XII
век).
4.
Азербайджанская литература средних веков (XIII-XVI
века).
5.
Азербайджанская литература раннего «нового вре-
мени» (XVII-XVIII века).
6.
Азербайджанская литература периода просветитель-
ского реализма (XIX век).
7.
Азербайджанская литература периода национально-
демократического движения (90-е годы XIX века – до
начала репрессий 1937 г.).
8.
Азербайджанская литература периода социалисти-
ческого реализма (1920-1960 гг.).
9.
Азербайджанская литература новейшего времени и
переходного периода (1960-1995 гг.).
10.
Азербайджанская литература периода независимости.
