Finská faleristika odvozuje svoje počátky od vyhlášení nezávislosti země spojené s nutností
její obrany a potřeby ocenění vojenských zásluh.
a vojenské zásluhy.
Záslužný kříž fi nských olympijských her z roku 1951,
Záslužný kříž fi nského Červeného kříže a záslužné
nům i cizím státním příslušníkům. Existuje pouze
v jediné skupině a tvoří je mimořádná dekorace, pět
řádových tříd, zvláštní odznak (udělovaný do roku
1960) a tři medaile.
Finnish faleristics have also inherited their beginnings from the country’s declaration
of independence, in connection with the necessity of its defence and a need to appre-
ciate military merit. The fi rst honour, the Order of the Cross of Liberty, was created
in March 1918, and was subsequently infl uenced by the newly-forming faleristics in
Estonia. A year later, the highest Finnish honour was formed, the Order of the White
Rose of Finland, conferred for extraordinary military and civil merit. To maintain its
exclusivity, the Finnish government decided in 1942 to found another decoration,
the Order of the Lion of Finland, which is also conferred for civil and military merit.
Finnish faleristics have nearly a century of tradition, and its system of three highest
honours was later gradually complemented in the second half of the 20th century
with several dozen medals, crosses and decorations of merit, conferred for merit in
all spheres of human endeavour. Among the most important decorations of this type
are the Cross of Merit of the Finnish Olympic Games from 1951, the Finnish Red Cross
Cross of Merit and crosses of merit of individual types of military services. Decora-
tions of merit are also complemented by memorial decorations, mostly referring to
the wartime confl icts that led Finland to maintain its independence.
The Order of the White Rose of Finland (Suomen Valkoisen Ruusun suurristi) is
the highest Finnish honour, which is conferred for extraordinary merit to domestic
citizens and foreigners. It exists in only one group and is made up of an extraordinary
decoration, fi ve order classes, a special emblem (conferred until 1960) and three
medals.

Francouzská faleristická tradice sahá až do 15. století, kdy vznikla první francouzská
řádová dekorace, Řád svatého Michala, doplněná později o Řád Svatého ducha
a Vojenský řád svatého Ludvíka. Revoluce na konci 18. století řádové dekorace zrušila
kvůli principu rovnosti a teprve nástup Napoleona Bonaparta do čela státu vedl
i republiky.
zrušena a nahrazena jedinou řádovou dekorací, Národním řádem zásluh. Z původních
dekorací zůstal zachován Řád
akademických palem (založen
v roce 1808), Řád umění a lite-
ratury (založen v roce 1957),
Vojenská medaile (založena
v roce 1852) a několik dalších
dekorací, které doplnila celá
řada pamětních medailí.
Řád čestné legie (Ordre de
la Légion d’Honneur) je udě-
lován francouzským občanům
i cizím státním příslušníkům
v jediné skupině. Má celkem
pět tříd, přičemž prezident
Francouzské republiky nosí
nejvyšší třídu na zvláštním
řádovém řetězu.
The French faleristic tradition reaches back to the 15th century, when the Order
of Saint Michael, the fi rst French order decoration, was created, complemented
later by the Order of the Holy Spirit and the Royal and Military Order of St. Louis.
The revolution at the end of the 18th century cancelled order decorations due to
the principle of equality, and only the accession of Napoleon Bonaparte as head
of state led to the renewal of decorations of merit. It was the Legion of Honour,
founded by Napoleon in 1804, which became the basis for modern order decora-
tions, founded on the principle of a unifi ed honour, intended for all meritorious
citizens regardless of their origin. This order decoration became the inspiration for
most European orders created in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Legion of Honor
has outlasted all the political changes France has gone through in two centuries,
and has remained as the most important decoration of merit under empires,
kingdoms and republics. From the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century, this
order was complemented by 30 other order decorations created to award merit
in all spheres of human endeavour. In December 1963, however, most of these
honours were cancelled and replaced by a single order decoration, the National
Order of Merit. Of the original decorations, the ones that remained were the Order
of the Academic Palms (founded in 1808), the Order of Arts and Letters (founded
in 1957), the Military Medal (founded in 1852) and several other decorations that
have been complemented by a range of memorial medals.
The Legion of Honour (Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur) is conferred upon French
citizens and foreigners in a single group. It has a total of fi ve classes, in which
the president of the French Republic wears the highest class with a special order
chain.
